This piece of “sci-fi” art is:
-An Obama-era treatise on understanding, patience, and comradery;
-A haunting look at determinism and fate;
-A thesis on why our understanding of language and time is so limited;
-A secondary thesis that proves that our humanity stems from said limited understanding;
-The best conceivable use of Max Richter;
-Unabashedly emotionally manipulative; and…..
-Perfect in every single second, frame, and word.
Ummm, what are the Ruffalo and Ryan performances going for? Had the two never met before the first day of filming? I have no clue how many stars to give this experience.
Solid found footage movie with a few good tense horror moments, especially in the antiques shop near the end. Putting the “pieces coming together montage” in the middle was an interesting choice but could have been more powerful at the end.
I liked the use of multiple “sources” including security cam, Skype footage, texts, radio, etc. compared to Cloverfield. That lended a strong documentary feel at times.
