Well executed family epic. Rhymed with Natalia Ginzburg's novels in its depiction of (gendered) life during wartime. This is to say it’s an emotionally demanding film.
Every other shot is breathtaking. I can't imagine living around so much space. My only complaint: its deployment of visual and narrative symbols felt a too coy. A little anxious about fitting into a neorealist canon?
