Paradise Is Burning 2023
beautifully shot and acted. Clearly an amazing force of creativity and production. Came away unclear as to why this particular story was told by this particular director.
Why was did this wonderful observation on sisterhood have to be embedded in the context of material and systemic neglect? It felt a bit gratuitously raw/misery-porn-y at times. The relationship between Laura and Hanna also took me out of the film quite sharply- again, away from that core portrayal of sisterhood.
