I went in really wanting to like The Monkey, and to it's credit I was entertained. You see, there are many kinds of Stephen King stories. The Monkey is one of the goofy ones. Which wasn't what I was expecting from the director of Longlegs.
I was expecting something atmospheric and got something closer to Final Destination, which isn't a bad thing. Both stories share a lot in common, it's just goofier and over the top in a kind of…
I was really generous with this review because it was fun but had so many problems that keep it from going any higher than middle of the road.
I just really liked the cast and set pieces.
I did not expect to like this as much as I did.

This film is a nice and quick anthology themed on art and how us artists can pull inspiration from…
Visually stunning. Concept is a great story about identity and having the courage to be your true self or live to be the weirdo that hangs onto false nostalgia. There's also a bit about grief that I really resonated with.
That said, the film still felt so amateurish to me, and slightly half cooked, but if it was any other way than what we got, it would definitely lose it's magic.
It's a slow burn, so make sure you're in the mood for that before watching it.
