  Tries to cover so much ground that it ends up doing nothing successfully... definitely needed to be (at least) an hour longer, or to pick a smaller section of helfgott's life to focus on. There's definitely a universe in which this film works - it's decently well shot, and rush's performance is very good - but it ends up feeling emotionally devoid and falling flat.

  Every time something bad happened to gizmo i wanted to kill myself, and after that ending i might anyway.

  More creature features should feature creatures that resemble willem dafoe.

  "When i start to come, choke me"

  Feel like such a dumb stereotype whenever i love a film about gay men being sad and horny , but this film is great so i've had to get over myself. Obviously brilliant and emotionally impactful, and surprisingly well acted considering it stars two non-professional actors... definitely a film that will stay with me for a while. Still feels weirdly very microcosmic of the gay experience, even 30+ years later. A little on…
