achingly dreamy. the stark juxtaposition of these beautiful, gorgeous sequences against the portrayal of the ugliest recesses of humanity is nothing short of brutal and only accentuates the abject isolation & escapism within the narrative and characters. yuichi and shusuke are unknowingly and ironically connected through shared isolation yet are remain diametrically opposed throughout. yuichi and shiori maintain an equally tragic short-lived friendship. the throughline that connects each of these characters is isolation and, of course, lily chou chou. escapism is…
