There are some incredible sequences in this (thinking especially of the dreamlike journey up to the castle and first meeting with Orlok), but overall I found it kind of lugubrious. IMO every Eggers movie has pacing issues, this one included. Like many auteurs, I suspect he's a bit of a control freak and doesn't take well to cutting anything back. Dude is indisputably a master of setting a tone, however. The performances are all great, Lily-Rose Depp especially. I will almost certainly watch it again.
