In this film David Lynch makes repeated references and homages to the Wizard of Oz, it even goes beyond that. We see a depiction of both witches. Maybe I’m too dumb or need to see it again but I was struggling to make connections. They go on a road trip, and the witches are there, is there a Lion? A Scarecrow? A Tin Man? Did they meet a Wizard?

I am not a giant silent film person. Of course they’re inherently cinematic and often the photography still looks beautiful. I do often feel like something is lost when we can’t directly hear the characters speak for themselves, communications are boiled down to body language and the most basic summation of what they said.
