  Whilst it seems petty, clumsy exposition is perhaps my biggest gripe - scifi is a genre that particularly requires whilst Denis' style particularly ignores it. The result is incredibly inefficient and cumbersome exposition with a lot of scenes obviously there only to explain the plot and a little bit of "i know what you did" besides.   Didn't really hit until the final 30 minutes for me. The rest features a rich array of characters, and it's a pleasure to see them contrast - but it's generally easy to see where the parable is going. Beautiful cinematography and wonderful pacing, but for most of it it really boils down to an old couple, tolerant of but disappointed by their disinterested (and uninteresting) children.
