Nicolas Cage forges a battle axe and goes on a visually stunning journey to avenge his girlfriend’s murder at the hands of an acid fried cult. In one scene, Bill Duke gives him arrows for a crossbow and tells him they’ll “cut through bone like a fat kid through cake”. There’s also a 5 minute Cage-rage freak out episode where he guzzles a bottle of vodka in his underwear. The use of color is dazzling, Cosmatos weaves a tapestry of violence and drug fueled insanity like few movies ever achieved.
