I hope to see Microsoft releasing YouTube videos a la Adobe making ads showing off how Everything Everywhere All At Once was edited in Premiere but instead they celebrate this being the first film to win an editing Oscar cut solely using PowerPoint.   We live in a post-Aftersun society. Make-a-Wish-Fulfilment level writing that reveals itself immediately with entirely unnecessary plot strands and awkward narrative flow. I’ve seen few films butcher their inspirations harder than this I mean come on, reflecting on parental relationships in childhood with expressionist nightclub sequences, slowed down Damon Albarn songs and 80s pop songs to a genuinely laughable attempt at horror effect, topped off by the fact they were ballsy enough to just say it out loud and cast Paul Mescal. Andrew Scott cried talking about it though which was cool. So at least there’s that.
