  The history around the making of the film is what drew me in, and that is interesting. But unless you’re interested in Eisenstein’s place in the history of cinema etc or the ussr in the 30s I would seriously recommend giving this a miss. There is no nuance to the plot, no semblance of moral ambiguity or any doubt over Nevsky’s inevitable victory - it just feels like it was how a child would interpret history. It’s important to grasp that if you’re going into this expecting a traditional narrative structure and a satisfying conclusion you’re mostly likely going to be disappointed.
