Paddington in Peru 2024

It's entertaining, but doesn't come anywhere near the magic and depth of Paddington 2. Sally Hawkins is sorely missed, and in fact the whole family barely plays a role in this movie. There's so much more that could've been done with this exploration of visiting the motherland. But hey at least Olivia Colman is having fun!!

I enjoyed the movie and applaud it for not feeling long despite the 3.5hr runtime. However the movie made departures from the book that I felt didn't work as well. It chose to center Ernest's character instead of the investigation/Osage perspective which revealed everything that was happening from the very beginning, whereas the book reveals information as the investigation is happening. The book feels a lot more sinister and mysterious, and the reveal of people so close to the Osage…

A haunting and devastating watch! LOVED the POV shots which hooked me in immediately. The cinematography is so inventive and lends itself extremely well to the storytelling, especially the seamless transitions in perspective. I thought the time jumps and interstitching of media clips was done very well and makes for a layered and powerful film.
