raw, poignant, yet grounded, i’m still here walks you the havoc left behind by state violence that its survivors must navigate. fernanda torres is brilliant here. if the academy wasn’t so US-centric, she would’ve won that oscar.

a memorable scene for me was when eliana returns from beach volleyball on the day of her father’s disappearance, complaining about not being able to return to her game. when told what had happened to her father, she has a moment of terror,…

gorgeous, serene, and therapeutic, flow is a masterpiece in visual storytelling. with zero dialogue, the movie nonetheless pulls you in with a well-paced rhythm and deft cinematography. i’m also giving extra half a star on behalf of preston who stay glued to the TV basically the entire time.

at its core,  flow is about friendship, resilience, and bunch of other themes that we’ve seen before, but that doesn’t matter. in a world ravaged by biblical floods, the way this film still manages to bring you calm and makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside is nothing short of marvelous. well-deserved oscar win.

paul mescal’s character changes his entire personality after every fight. no character really stood out to me in this movie at all and the plot is so flat. i don’t really know why this movie needed to exist. paul mescal is hot yeah, but all you get to see is his arm and chest. i feel like there should at least be some ass. anyway, cannot say i enjoyed this viewing experience. also it was way too long.

    Mickey 17

    ★★★

Another installment in Bong Joon Ho’s capitalism-is-the-end-of-humanity cinematic universe. It’s not a particularly well-told story - the sheer amount of exposition will agree, but it remains entertaining for most of its runtime.

Beyond the typical political satire, which I feel like has gotten old with all the movies that want to be Parasite from the last 5 years, there’s some nicely crafted (also cliche, but at least doesn’t feel preachy) message about the role rage plays in protecting your humanity.…
