Sadly 60 mins too long at a runtime of 94 mins.

Like many, I did think Bautista and Pamela were good and had genuine chemistry. Some bits were interesting: the pursuit of craft, the young women seeking a mother, a profession now becoming defunct. The latter resonated with me as many professions redundant in the light of AI. What will give folks (me!) meaning when after we’re replaced by computers 😥

But broadly, that is generous. It is so flimsy!…

Oh I struggle with this review.

I can totally see how this has to play to the sensitivities of the current Brazilian political and cultural landscape. I can also see that its resonance could plausibly be lost on someone far removed.

Yet, I felt strongly that this movie was deeply confused. It captured no nuance, no historical import (where was the politics of US involvement in the communist repression), no non white, affluent families. But neither was it a bona…

Felt like a sprawling, slovenly advertorial for Dior and MMM. The film asks truly boring and lame questions: who gets forgiveness, what pressures do we put on artists. Snooze.

Also sorry but the Abel Gance/ Red Shoes references are so contrived and hollow? They needed to added some depth to this navel gazey account of fashion.

It’s formulaic and bad. Will never get over the images of Galliano slowly reading the Torah. How did it happen!!

2.5 stars because the runways are 🫠

    Endemically boring and historically inaccurate.

We kept trying to locate the movie in its socio political climate. What anxieties around the mob, corruption were part of the zeitgeist? Try as we may, it is hard to render a generous interpretation of this silly movie.

So much unecessary violence, zero character development and stilted dialogue. It’s staggering that such a generation of young men were (and still are) captivated by this.

This idea of venal, myopic leaders being redeemed by a…
