    Julie Keeps Quiet

Something I realised too late into this film is that it’s allowing Julie’s silence a lot of time to breathe as an education. The camera is so kind and attentive of Julie and expects nothing of her. And we should aspire to the same for women in similar situations. The stance she takes with her silence is more like a shuffle across one’s half of the tennis court. Her silence accomplishes different things. But most importantly it is hers. She gets to decide if/when/what she says. She’s the victim, the burden isn’t hers. But I guess it real life it often is.

I do not understand the dislike some people here have for this movie. Apart from a teeny bit of egregiously hokey dialogue I really enjoyed this. The scene where Chloe talks with her dead about God and religion was so beautiful. It’s composed of long takes but it moves. I’ll definitely watch it again. Thank you Mr. Soderbergh (also: your name is really hard to spell).

I adore brilliant craft, talent and professionalism. Regardless of a story’s merits, it is delightful to see film professionals bring their A-game. Hollywood needs more of that. Nollywood especially needs even just some of that. I’m going to make sure I never forget this lesson.
