Whiplash 2014
Given its high critical acclaim, I have to say I walked away a little disappointed with this one. Major plot points felt predictable, the story felt rushed, and Neiman just didn’t resonate with me as a likeable enough main character. Maybe I missed something here, but the only thing that carried the movie for me was the continually entertaining and over-the-top performance from J.K. Simmons. Will have to revisit this one day with a new lens and perhaps I’ll gain a greater perspective.
