These characters live to eat and boy do they eat well. This visual degustation speaks of the tenderness, care and love the characters materialize through their meals. The act of cooking by Dodin becomes a potent ritual which maintains the memory Eugenie. Pauline also alternates between the role of an apprentice and a living relic of Eugenie's admiration for her talent. I'm curious to know what their cooking would've been like without Pauline?
