Film festival Q&As are always a minefield, but the leftist old ladies of Cambridge really went for it after this one. On some level they’re correct: the ideas about “found family” here are borderline nonsensical in the context of the US military. On another level, they predictably miss the point that queer people of color are forced into these impossible choices - filmmaker and audience probably share the responsibility for that oversight.

Women Talking 2022
Almost evasive at first, with a particular mix of metaphor and specificity that feels strange. But that strangeness unfolds into beauty with total self-assurance and grace. Would make a lovely double feature with 20th Century Women.

Prisoners of the Ghostland 2021
Frankly defies all odds that this movie could be boring, but somehow they pulled it off.
