A nice surprise, right up my alley!

Slow burn horror/suspense is the name of ZKelly’s game man. I found this a unique and refreshing take on a redundant motif, based upon very well written characters and an excellently tense who-Dunnit-esk script that had Alyssa and I questioning, discussing and reeling from the entire runtime. Gorgeous cinematography, a very good score, and two of the most underrated working actors in Joel Edgerton and Christopher Abbott. Had a very fun time watching this with my girl.

I was fairly disappointed with this one. Had heard for years and years that this was a banger, that Patrick Stewart was epic, yada yada. Got it on dvd in an A24 horror pack. Watched it with Alyssa, neither one of us vibed with it. We found the band at the center to be pretty bland, which is the core of our problems really. I just didn’t care. Was I entertained? Sure. But I couldn’t care less who was dying…

I’ve never actually heard anyone else say the words “fuck a duck.” I say that all the time. How did Scorsese know? Does he spy on me? Is Scorsese my dad? Am I Scorsese?

Absolutely bonkers film. One I both loved and kinda didn’t at the same time. It’s intellectually unfathomable, and it’s cock has too much girth and heft for me to be able to wrap my hand around it. It’s kinda of intentionally bad, but at the same time equally brilliant technically and directionally. It’s a tough load to swallow for sure. One I can’t really emotionally empathize with, but I’m so down with intellectually. I was kind of lost for half of it too. But overall, this is the absolute definition of art. So complex, hand crafted, divisive.
