I expected a lot more “exploding” from the “Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique”.
I definitely preferred Vol. 2 to Vol. 1, but it was certainly no Inglorious Basterds. I’d be curious to see how viewing both parts as one movie impacts the story.
Hands-down Tarantino’s best film. Inglorious Basterds expertly blends extreme tension, outrageous violence, and dark humor without ever losing its heart.
It once again shocked me how Tarantino managed to create a gratuitous, irreverent nazi dark comedy that still felt relatively tasteful and heartfelt. There are countless reasons this film shouldn’t have worked, yet it’s incredibly well-done.

Just rewatched The Cat in the Hat (2003) and I forgot it was THAT wild. For a PG movie, the humor is shockingly adult and it often feels like a (somehow) dialed-back raunchy r-rated horror comedy. For better or for worse, every moment feels like an absolute fever dream. The film is an outrageous blast that gleefully and entertainingly embodies chaotic evil.
This movie was a fun and clever take on the western. While parts definitely felt dated, the tone felt surprisingly modern for a 1960’s western. Both lead actors are very effective in their roles and act as strong foils to each other. They, unlike many westerns, don’t act as perfect heroes. Both characters are very flawed in different ways.
