God i wish i was observant enough to understand this one. Danny made me forget about angels in the outfield for 90 minutes tho, which is saying something

High and Low 1963
Visually stunning- at first i didn’t like how vibrantly bright the whites were, but i settled in.
Loved the scenes where the detectives are all presenting evidence two-by-two and sweating their asses off - why don’t they do that today?? Could’ve watched it go on another 30 minutes.
Story-wise I think i was hoping for a tad bit more suspense, or mystery maybe? The living room scenes with an agonizing Mifune and the final conversation are as gripping as anything I’ve ever watched though.

Seven Samurai 1954
Loved magnificent seven as a kid, and knew how seminal this film was, but wow. No idea I could be so moved by a black and white Japanese film from the 50s.
one of the most beautifully shot films I’ve ever seen. The pacing is great and even the humor holds up. The old lady sitting next to me said she saw it when it first imported in the 50s. She said it was like being transported to another world.
Makes me think of all the other beautiful things out there i’ve yet to discover.
