David Lynch makes a soap opera and it’s great, but Wiseau makes one and it’s the worst of all time. Jk, Twin Peaks is great, and this is not. But it really is not terrible. Even when we “know” (via things like “The Disaster Artist”) that Wiseau was intending one thing — seriousness and compelling material — and it turns out to be not that, doesn’t mean our evaluation has to be limited to that knowledge. Perhaps I could go…

“It might be a while before I connect with silent films of this era. Feels much more like a different art form than I expected. Been full of strange, exaggerated facial expressions, and sound is more missed than I anticipated...”

    Each one: 5 stars

After an overall mediocre experience with the live action shorts I didn’t have reason to think the animations would be better, but they were. Each one was good to really good to great.

    Magic Candies
had a simple, unique, and likable (maybe lovable) style and story.

    1 - The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent - ⭐️ ⭐️(1.5)

A man disturbed in an unclear way by the mistreatment of Muslims or Islam. It doesn’t have a dynamism other than that and nervousness. Not enough to round it out into something good.

    2 - Anuja - ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

A “cute” bond done well despite sharing a lot of characteristics with the ones not done well

Animation was good, but the content was empty. Tried but did not succeed in achieving effective optimism and sentimentality.

Just looked at the Letterboxd rating and ratings from friends I respect. Letterboxd does not agree with me on this one.

    *EDIT, further thoughts in comments*:

Outside of the animation, the content portrays a reality which is dependent on an abstract but nice idea of animals/people coming together because coming together is pleasant.

But the other robots who try to take…

As soon as I saw the airplane shot I was a little bit relieved: the filmmakers were focused on making a good movie/documentary rather than simply documenting how these monks live
