Fruits of Passion 1981
A surrealist adventure through the sexual psyche. Clearly made with provocation in mind, I’d love to know how 80s audiences received this.
The poetic visuals were good but not enough to offset the unrealized impact of its political aspirations. A mirage of colors in every shot kept me glued to the screen, but I ultimately would’ve been made happier with a heavier plot and a palpably deeper romance for its characters to adhere to.
Looking forward to watching more by Terayama.
