Bootleg Black Swan x The Wrestler x Sean Baker.

Has some nice ingredients but ultimately doesn’t come together the way you’d hope. Feels a little too manufactured to really pull off the type of social drama it’s trying to be. It’s also quite poorly shot at times.

Nice score and I really like all the casting choices, although I didn’t really go for JLC here, would’ve been another ridiculous Oscar nomination if it happened.

Pamela Anderson really is outstanding here and without her the movie is nothing.

Didn’t enjoy this quite as much as Bong’s other English language films, but still had a great time with it.

Always appreciate when something this bizarre and kinda original with big studio money behind it comes along.

It’s Bong through and through, and it’s a delight to see actors like Mark Ruffalo and Toni Colette hamming it up, while Robert Pattinson somehow makes his crazy accent work and crafts a super endearing character.

Don’t expect this to win any Oscars, but it’s absolutely worthwhile.

I'm so mad, I was so excited for this.

Raw is the kind of movie I hate. The kind of movie that wants you to believe it's way smarter than it is.

For all the raves about how shocking and fucked up it is, this film is empty. It's devoid of any message or meaning, and is mostly just weird and shocking for the sake of being weird and shocking.
I use the word shocking lightly though, because it's really…

    MIFF 2022 #16

Winner of the runner up prize at Cannes this year, Close is the story of two 13 year old boys who’s lifelong friendship begins to break apart after their closeness begins to attract questions and bullying from their classmates.

Yikes. Cannot remember the last time a film tried so hard to make me cry without even coming close. This is misery porn in the worst way, the kind of filmmaking that belongs in the 90’s. But it’s…
