Get to know Hashem's family

My name is Hashem from Gaza. I am 32 years old and my wife, Samar, is 27 years old. We have a child born in the eighth month of pregnancy. His mother was premature because of my wife's fear of war. My large family consists of 8 members: my father, mother, four male brothers and 2 females. My father died in the war due to a lack of medicine in hospitals as a result of the fierce war on Gaza.

My story began when we were displaced from our home in northern Gaza in mid-October 2023 after a letter threatening eviction, and then the house was targeted and destroyed. Between this Exodus and the current fifth Exodus there are many stories and sufferings.

We now live in plastic tents, which are thermal ovens, which are not suitable for living and do not provide the minimum necessities of life, in addition to the spread of epidemics and diseases, which puts our lives in danger.

Through this campaign, we are trying to collect enough money to meet our needs and get us out of the Gaza Strip safely. We ask you to stand by us and protect us from this severe danger.

I think the worst part about Israel's "response" to October 7 has been the response to the response from Israel's allies and supporters. I think that far too many people have internalised the idea that Israel's genocide in Gaza will somehow always be justified because of October 7 and the remaining hostages. Even this current round of bombings, which has mostly killed women and children, after what was supposed to eventually become a permanent ceasefire. At the end of the day, this is not really about whether Israel has a "right" to respond or about how far it can go before it hits a red line or whatever. It's not really about Hamas either. It's the fact that Israel can impose a regime of starvation and restrict aid to most of the strip, and no one does anything. It's about the fact that much of the world's leaders and politicians have sat back and allowed Israel to commit wanton murder on whoever it likes whether that be women, children, men, aid workers, civil service workers, and so forth. It's the fact that the world has effectively allowed Israel to set a precedent where they can just bomb any hospital or building just because "Hamas hides there and uses it as a base." At this point, I don't think it matters whether these claims can be substantiated because we're at a point where nobody is asking Israel to provide evidence. Israel can just bomb any building and trot out that excuse, and the world turns a blind eye. Israel can justify the murder of tens or hundreds of people by claiming a Hamas fighter is amongst them, and the world turns a blind eye.

The way the world treats us, the way we've been punished in every possible way since the beginning of our lives, and now they move us around like chess pieces. They wanted us there, then they wanted us to leave, then to stay, as if we have no will of our own. Can you imagine what that does to us, as the people of Gaza? As if we're not human beings. Some people romanticize our suffering, turning us into symbols or superheroes, while others see us as nothing, as objects to be moved from place to place. Can you imagine the impact of this on those who have physically survived this genocide? How we see ourselves?

How we see the way the world sees us? We are treated as everything except human beings.

My family are living now on the rubble of our destroyed house since they returned to northern Gaza without the minimum necessities of life, with no shelter or tent, without food or water! They just light a fire and gather around it to keep warm. Please don’t leave us alone with this suffering. This is not a human life and everyone has abandoned us and the people.

Abdullah Ameen resides in the Nuseirat camp with his wife and two extremely young children; the older being only one, the youngest being a newborn. The ongoing genocide makes it far too dangerous and difficult for Abdullah and his wife to raise their children securely and safely. He has also recently amended his campaign in order to evacuate his mother, who is injured with a pelvic fracture, and sisters.

His campaign began in April, yet it has received only a fraction of its goal of €35,000 throughout the past five months. His family must be evacuated urgently, especially since he is with a newborn child and his injured mother, who is unable to visit a doctor.

By August 12th, it is our aim to boost his campaign so that he may reach €8,000 in donations. He currently has €5,483. This means that there are €2,517 left to go.

I was born and raised in Gaza, a place that has always been my home 🏡. I grew up surrounded by my family, my friends, and the streets that I knew like the back of my hand. Life wasn’t always easy, but we had love, laughter, and dreams. I used to think that no matter what happened, home would always be here. But life has a way of changing things in ways we never expect.

Over the past months, everything I once knew has disappeared. The streets that were once filled with children playing are now silent. The houses that held so many memories are now just rubble. And the people I loved—some of them are gone forever. 💔

What isn't happening in Gaza right now?

23rd of Ramadan.

We were hoping to enjoy some safety…
But we didn't even get to enjoy a little safety before the war, which never really ended, was renewed.

It was renewed after two months of "rest" that was nothing more than a pause in the bloodshed.
It was renewed after two months of "rest" during which the crossings were not opened and the siege continued.
It was renewed after two months of "rest" during which they took what they wanted from Gaza and then resumed the bombing and destruction.
Yesterday, they besieged more than 50,000 displaced people in the west of Rafah, abusing them and carrying out massacres.

The children who were waiting for Eid… were martyred.
The sound of bombing, displacement, and homelessness never leaves us.

Gaza itself is tired… tired… tired.
So what about its people and its families?

We are tired of the bombing, the destruction, the displacement. We haven't even recovered from the last displacement, and now we have to leave our homes again, which we haven't even had time to rebuild? Are they going to destroy them again after the hope we had?
We are tired of greedy merchants, tired of the lack of food. Imagine that in the month of Ramadan, I fast from food for 12 hours, and my main meal is hummus or sometimes rice.

We are very tired…
And we need you so much in a way I've never felt before in my life. We need you more than at the beginning of the war because the war has returned even stronger than before!!
