Questions about example sentences with, and the definition and usage of "Fitful"

A: It means you slept badly and you woke up many times during the night. I will admit though that until I was 30 years old I thought it meant the opposite, because when something "fits" that is usually good. You would only see "fitful" in writing. In the U.S. I have never heard anyone say "I had a fitful sleep." or "I slept fitfully".

A: I mean, the word fitful is kinda common, I guess. Because I’ve seen fitful as fitful sleep, fitful breathing etc. but I’ve not seen it as a fitful person. It just sounds weird to me:( @Tblinguist
