Fic Year in Review!

Thank you @annabtg for the tag!

Well I feel like this year was a crazy one, really defined by some strong women and the lives they’ve lead. I posted about 300k in words this year, most of it at the beginning with Karma and Speak Now, being posted simultaneously.

Honestly I feel like this year was defined by Roxanne and Lily-Luna as my main focus in characters. They were the two big fics I wrote and posted this year. They caused me a lot of ups and downs and to keep up with the trend I’m working on a story now about Dominique and Victoire which I’ll hopefully be ready to start posting in February or March, it’s been slow writing with this one.

My goals/fics for next year are rather simple:

  • Finish and post Sirens - the Dominique/Victoire/Fleur long fic that is currently taking up my time
  • Work on some fun one-shots - I have one that I’ve been very interested in lately, it’s a Georgelina/Slim Pickins song fic, and I need to finish up the Crookshanks and Rosie fic, and there’s a Romione/Delicate fic I want to write
  • Start on Teddy’s story, he is the only Next Gen character I have yet to write a long fic for
  • Write the Romione/Scorose fic of all of the experiencing their first year living together as couples (this might turn out as a long one-shot or a 12 chapter one for a month thing)
  • I signed up for the @greenhouse-seven Valentine’s fic exchange so that’ll be fun
  • I’m sure I’ll end up doing a challenge or two, I always enjoy getting prompts

I’m putting the fics I posted this year under the cut!

If I was desperate for kudos I would not be out here posting villain ships, minor character rarepairs, and other deeply unpopular ships.

I know how to write popular fic. I know how to farm kudos. That's not what I'm here for.

"Readers need to remember that authors don't know a reader liked their fic unless the reader tells them by leaving a kudos or a comment" does not mean "waahhh waahhh I need attention!"

It means "even if writers write purely for themselves, if you don't bother to interact with writers when you do enjoy their work, they might stop posting and just keep their work to themselves."

"If you enjoy a work you should kudos or comment" is not aimed at the people who aren't reading the fanfiction in question.

"If you enjoy a work you should kudos or comment" is not aimed at the people who did not enjoy the fanfiction in question.

"If you enjoy a work you should kudos or comment" is aimed at people who read a fanfiction, enjoyed it, and then didn't bother to even do the bare minimum to share their excitement about it with the work's creator, even though that excitement is literally the only thing they get in return for posting their work.

Fanfiction authors write because they enjoy writing. They post because they want to form a connection with the people who enjoyed their work.

This is not an attempt to scold anyone, I literally don't care if I get kudos or not. It's simply an attempt to remind people that fanfiction is a community, and fan authors can't read your mind.

THIS THIS THIS

Look, I write A LOT.

I work with heritage organizations professionally, helping tell their histories in engaging ways. It's important work, but it's faceless. My name isn't on most of what I write.

But fanfiction? Fanfiction is an act of COMMUNITY. I write fan fiction because I want to connect with others, to explore our common humanity. These are my words, and they do belong to me, but they belong to YOU too.

If no one interacts with my work, it isn't that it bruises my ego or whatever. It is that I am not making the connection. I share my words because I want to TALK TO YOU about it. And in fact, the community I create in my fan spaces gives me the energy to do the faceless work that I believe is very important but isn't validating to me personally in the same way.

Please, comment, leave kudos, ask questions! Humans are social creatures, so let's socialize.

If no one interacts with my work, it isn't that it bruises my ego or whatever. It is that I am not making the connection. I share my words because I want to TALK TO YOU about it.

Exactly!

Big day for deranged evangelical freaks

I know, intellectually, that modern american christianity has absolutely nothing to do with the ideal concept of the church - but there is quite literally something in the bible about not doing this. Like this exact precise thing. This is an idol that is detracting worship from the lord.

wouldn't it be so cool if we built the golden calf from famous bible story "Don't Build The Golden Calf"

Anytime you're interacting with your child, but especially when angry, say to yourself "how would I feel if their future partner treated them the way I am currently treating them?"

You are creating their 'normal'

People need to read the UN Conventions On The Rights Of The Child before becoming parents and regularly while parenting and I am so serious about this.

Everyone SHOULD read it, and it is often a distressing experience to do so. Back in 1929 it was internationally recognized that children in particular needed to have a codified set of rights, it has been improved on since - in many ways it is still not perfect but it needs to be understood that the rights contained within are the BARE MINIMUM.

If any of these are breached - whether on the home scale or on the cultural one, particularly for signatory countries - that is a fundamental issue.

I promise that learning what the established bare minimums are in universal human rights frameworks will enable you to cut through so much propaganda immediately.

Children and teens are full human beings and by becoming parents an immense responsibility is applied to treat them as such. They need open and clear communication, not to be talked down too, and to have their questions answered. They have the right to autonomy and life.

Anonymous asked:

Fancreators who never plan to use AI: what is your primary reason?

  • I think AI is plagarism
  • I think AI is bad for the environment
  • I think AI would do a worse job than I could
  • I don't want people to judge me
  • I like writing/drawing too much to let AI do it for me
  • Other
  • Not a fancreator/ I do use AI/ see results

Where's the option for "multiple of these"

Take off the “I think” in the first three options.

Why are people so lazy to use ai to write or draw, use your imagination and create something.

i just finished reading The Raven Cycle and I am just... beyond.

this series is for the kids who grew up knowing they had something...more. something undefinable, intangible. something a bit like magic. now, at my big age, these books transported me all the way back to that feeling and then some.

I cannot for the life of me remember anything that made me feel as deeply nostalgic for a life and friends that didn't belong to me as this has. the accessible magic, the hot summers, the creatures and animals. the cars and the first loves. the houses and the terrible song Ronan sings.

i will be going back to cabeswater and henrietta and visiting blue and her boys very soon, and very often, I know that much.

also i wrote something because i couldn't help myself. short, sweet, and full of spoilers.

It was Adam’s turn now, he realised. So, he breathed in Ronan’s bravery, and he borrowed some of it.

Sirius has every right to be paranoid about Harry doing something to endanger himself in GoF. He literally kidnapped Harry and his friends from right under Dumbledore’s nose.

During the Tournament, Harry keeps writing to Sirius, “Things are so fine. I can take care of myself.”

And Sirius had so much strength not to write back, “Shall I recount all the times when I could have killed you last year because you have zero regard for your own safety?”

"Child, please. Your father and I invented this game."

the thing about "would edward still fall for bella if he could read her mind?" is that bella's mental silence is not a coincidence. it's a core part of who she is, so fundamental that it manifests as her vampire superpower. "would edward still fall for bella if this key aspect in the makeup of her personality didn't exist?" idk man at that point who cares. would you still love me if I was a worm.

if he could read her mind, the discourse would be “he doesn’t really know her, he just cherry picks what he wants to hear out of her head!”

Brb going to ask my husband if he would still love me if I was a worm

whatd he say?

"Why are you like this?"
