Potter Family Tree

Sequel to my headcanoned Black family tree (as I was kindly requested to post it), this one required way more headcanoning and making up characters on my part, but I love making these sort of trees (I'm clearly a world-builder at heart):

Tree Notes:

  • Greyed-out letters are characters that technically aren't part of the Potter family.
  • The shirt color corresponds to that character's house. (Grey shirt stands for muggle/squib)
  • A '*' marks a character I made up the name of. Some are implied to exist in canon and some were just added to fill it up.
  • A '^' marks a character we know the name of and we know for sure they existed, but I made up their connection in this tree or part of their name (i.e, known last name and I added a first one or vice versa).

Headcanon Notes:

  • You can see the Macmillans and Abbots here, since, as were were told, all purebloods are related, and I wanted to add some more families that are less well known.
  • So are many other pureblood families from the books (including a made-up Malfoy, cause I felt like it).
  • And, as you can see from all the '*', most of the above are heavily made up/headcanoned. So, this is not a canon family tree, since the canon tree we have for the Potters is very very limited.
  • As I mentioned in the Black family one, I headcanon that Charlus and Dorea's son is a squib, hence why he is never relevant.
  • Ernie gave me younger brother vibes, so I gave him two older siblings.
  • I tried to make up some interesting premises for some of these characters and some of them can be glimpsed from the information on the tree. I tried to make the tree fun, alright.
  • And I tried my best so the naming feels in-line with everything we know and to who chooses the names (as in, the parents' names can sometimes hint at the names they will choose for their children, depending on family traditions).
  • I know people like to headcanon Harry and James as not white, but book evidence does not support that.
  • I might do an extension of the Peverell side at some point, but that point isn't now. The Ignotus Peverell appearing on this tree is the second one, not the one from the Tale. I explained this here.

every time i hear "omg narcissa and lucius treated draco terribly😡😡 not my scrunkly!!" or "draco is just like regulus fighting against his evil family poor baby💔💔😓😓" i'm like ??? what ??.

little is really known about narcissa and lucius other than how much they LOVED their son. harry compared draco to dudley and james, both of whom were spoilt only children who knew more than anything that they were wanted and cared for.

no, lucius and narcissa did not abuse draco!!!!! not even a little!!!

severus snape is so much better than me bc if i had a murder attempt done to me with no repercussions done to the people who did it to me (and was even threatened not to report it by the HEADMASTER) and then not even a month later i was sexually assaulted in front of the entire school by the same people and everybody laughed at me i wouldve bombed the whole school

Random Headcanon

This isn't cultural or anything, but I think Ty Lee is distantly related to Ta Min. She's not a direct descendant though, because I'm pretty sure that someone would have brought up that her great-grandad was the Avatar if she was. I think it's more like she had an ancestor who was Ta Min's sibling or something like that.

Similar eye shape, eye color, nose shape and love of pink.

The character that is closest to Regulus personality-wise and the only one I agree to use in order to characterize Regulus as accurate as possible is Percy Weasley, and I will die on that hill.

Losing their families figuratively, Regulus with Sirius and Percy with his entire family, in a chase of what thought was right.

When understand too late they were wrong, Regulus getting himself off, and Percy losing Fred while fighting side by side him.

They both cared for their families. Percy in his way wanted his to stay away from Harry because he saw him as a threat to their safety. Regulus asked Kreacher to never tell his family what he had actually done.

And their ambitions with what they were after, Regulus with the Death Eaters collecting snippets about Voldemort, and Percy with the ministry willing to overlook his freedom of thought to just do what he was told to climb the ladder.

I don't want to see a Snape carbon copy. I want to see the uptight ambitious fanboy he actually is.

Just thinking about

Sirius’s head turned. He became very still, like a dog that has scented a rabbit. ‘Excellent,’ he said softly. ‘Snivellus.’ ... Several people watching laughed; Snape was clearly unpopular.

And I can understand how a boy so bullied would seek power and respect, even at a cost to his one friendship.

And it fascinates me how, in the end, he receives it. The rabbit becomes a wolf

'...you are the Dark Lord’s favourite, his most trusted advisor...' ... Snape said nothing, but walked forwards and pushed Malfoy roughly out of the way. The three Death Eaters fell back without a word. Even the werewolf seemed cowed. ... ‘Severus, here,’ said Voldemort, indicating the seat on his immediate right.

He has the trust of the two most powerful wizards in the world. He could use that power to seek revenge against the ones who made his life hell, but instead he uses his power and respect to protect others, even those who used to hurt him.

'Professor Snape requested that Sirius remain behind, as he needed somebody to remain at Headquarters to tell me what had happened, for I was due there at any moment. In the meantime he, Professor Snape, intended to search the Forest for you.' ... Now Harry was flying alongside Snape on a broomstick through a clear dark night: he was accompanied by other hooded Death Eaters, and ahead were Lupin and a Harry who was really George … a Death Eater moved ahead of Snape and raised his wand, pointing it directly at Lupin’s back – ‘Sectumsempra!’ shouted Snape. But the spell, intended for the Death Eater’s wand hand, missed and hit George instead –

It would've been easy to allow Lupin to die, but he risked his cover, his life, trying to protect him.

I honestly feel like this Azula might be close to my magnum opus 🔥 influences and inspiration under the cut, but the usual warning that it's nigh impossible to condense thousands of years and miles worth of culture into one post so there is 100% nuance and detail missing.
