How many loops had he been through now? Feint to the left, Ladybug go over the barrier, Carapace drop your Shellter, Boar don’t try Gift, Boar try gift. Rena Rouge cast this illusion, cast that illusion, watch out behind you! Holding the seams of his reality together with concertina wire in his fists…
“You okay?” Ladybug’s voice crackled over the comms. “H-how many times?”
Last cycle, he’d told Ladybug they were on loop number two, and she’d sighed with relief before throwing herself back into battle.
Could she handle the truth?
He peeked over the barrier he was hiding behind to remind himself of what had been going on when he’d created the save point.
“How many times?”
He fell into a coughing spell and looked down at his forearm, eyes half-squinted as if blurring the injury through his eyelashes would lessen the pain. Charred skin bubbled up and cracked through a hole in his suit, like lava just beneath the earth’s surface. And yet, he was already growing accustomed to it. Did time loops overwhelm one’s ability to sense pain?
