Tumblr ecosystem role: Post Hunter Gatherer | Perry | Chinese-Canadian | 30+ | She/Her

Hello, if you've found me because of my brush your teeth post, that's great. If you're looking for more content like that, I've created a tumblr that'll throw up a regular reminder to brush and floss on your dash. You can find that @brosser-les-dents. I also run a shower reminders blog @showertimereminders and an reminder to est blog @mealreminders

Otherwise, I'm just Malec trash. So much Malec on this blog now. If you followed me for something else, I'm so sorry. Interspersed through the Malec is a bunch of interesting stuff with some Batfam. I ship Superbat as well.

99.8 % of my posts are queued so I'm always posting something.

If you are looking for just the cool posts without any of the fandom stuff like shadowhunters, batfam, etc, you can follow @pennywords. It's also queued so will post consistently.

The other thing I'd like to pin up here is my Fic Rec Project. I haven't kept it up with my fanfic reading, but hopefully there is other stuff you might enjoy.

every woman thinks she's evil and irredeemable for making a few avoidable mistakes while every man goes about his day thinking he's normal after having emotionally tortured at least 5 different women

This felt very radfem, TERF-rhetoric to me and lo and behold! This kind of gender essentialism is ridiculous, and one of the things trans people are referring to when saying you need to recognize terf dogwhistles.

So turns out…..you guys are not gonna believe this…….but it turns out. Reading real books. Is good for you actually.

Let me be completely clear - I’m not being a sarcastic ass. I’m just realizing all over again, in real time, for myself, that reading a real life published book makes your neurons feel like they’re getting a spa day. Like I can feel my brain getting juicer and wrinklier with every page I turn. This shit is no joke, this is like hard drugs if hard drugs were good for you and made your brain feel revived and alive.

@7redmoon nothing against some good fanfic, I’m a fic author myself, but there’s something very necessary and mentally nourishing about reading a published book that isn’t just a recycled version of the same cast of characters you’re already familiar with.

@911boofer I hope it’s okay I snagged these tags bc YES!!!!! This is what I’m talking about!!! Diversify your palettes, my friends, it’s so so good for you!!

It's true, though. As someone who loves to give away days to a deep dive into fic, you need a well-rounded diet. There are brilliant fic writers out there, both talented hobbyists and award-winning bestselling professionals indulging in some fun, but as stated above, we're all using pre-fab characters/worlds/plots to fiddle around with ideas that interest us. Original fiction draws inspiration from all that comes before it, but still attempts to create something new. It's all the retellings and reboots vs. a new movie.

More than that, even though people like to say "I read fic that's better than anything published!" that's... not widely true. Sometimes it is! But fic is a thing that can go up without editing, without any kind of checks. It can be bad and ungrammatical and typo-riddled and nonsensical, and that's okay! Because fic doesn't have to be in any way good! It's for pure experimentation and fun for the writer.

Traditionally published works, however, are meant to make money. They have multiple sets of trained eyes that try to make the final result the best it can be. Sometimes the final work falls short of that goal, sure, but there are steps to at least try to filter out some of the worst elements, which means you're ingesting and internalizing fewer bad habits, which is crucial when you're trying to figure out how to do this writing thing.

To reiterate, reading actual books means:

  1. You're more likely to have solid examples to internalize during your own learning process.
  2. You have greater scope to read original work that at least attempts to do new things you've never seen before.
  3. You're reading works that have been vetted and refined multiple times by multiple people who do this for a living.
  4. You're reading things made with the GOAL of being polished, deliberately crafted, enjoyable experiences (as opposed to fic, which can be dashed off and is for the writer, not the reader)

Anecdotally, reading a really good book has always made me feel creatively sated to the point that I then feel like I need to release some pressure via writing.

TL;DR: Read widely. Read voraciously. Writers do not live on fic alone.

One of my long term fandom friends (back from ye olde message board days of yore) has been posting for weeks about how her teenage daughter is “out of control” and she just posted in the facebook group about how her daughter has ruined Christmas by deciding to be a lesbian and the whole group just went “Karen, you’ve been writing gay m/m slash fic for three decades” and she went “but that’s different, that’s not REAL” and I’ve never tried to actively set someone on fire with my brain before but

“I came to you guys for support not to be attacked”

That’s funny, that’s really funny, because that’s probably how your child feels. You fucking shitheel.

Two of the other mom’s in the group just offered to take M for Christmas and keep her with them when school restarts because she deserves to be loved. One of them actually said “deserves a real mother” and I just spat my tea everywhere.

@thebibliosphere Was there ever any updates on this? Do you still talk to these people anymore? Is M okay? Did Karen ever get the proctologist to remove her head out of her ass?

I don’t keep tabs on Karen so for all I know her head is still up her ass, but the last I heard from M was in 2020 and she was still living with one of the other mom’s who took her in and she was about to go into her third year of college.

hey! donate to uk trans charities today because it’s gonna be a rough one

Folks in the UK, could we have some trusted links to charities?

There's Mermaids which is always a great option, and then Scotland-specific there's LGBT Youth Scotland, to give you just a couple. There will absolutely be more that other people can suggest though!

switchboard.lgbt and akt.org.uk are two i regularly support, and there’s always stonewall !

trans aid cymru is a mutual aid group rather than a charity but ill always shout them out for wales specific trans community support! they have a donation page here

sharing around in light of the recent bullshit ruling in the UK. trans women are women!! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️ that's just how it is!!

41.7k notes and as of 7th April, the signatures are only 14,817.

The deadline is 9 July 2025.

Trans rights are always wavering in safety and are not stable and well protected in the UK. Please sign.

Trans rights in the UK is my rights.

Condensation drips like slow tears down the crystal of Magnus’ glass as he stares at the werewolf kneeling before him.

“I’ve warned you before, if you wish to keep your pack within the bounds of my territory, then you must also follow the rules.  My rules. Was this somehow unclear?” Magnus’ voice is gentle, almost kind and every word, every question makes the pathetic creature in front of him flinch.

Just as he is about to continue, the wolf’s ragged breath comes out not only in a whimper but in a gust of frost that hangs in the air  and Magnus inhales. The air of his club suddenly sharp and clean like a fresh layer of mountain snow... and the tang of blood.

The droplets etching their path down his drink freeze, stuck to the side like tiny glistening diamonds.

“Alexander—” Magnus murmurs to himself, beyond pleased despite the simmering impatience that still lingers in his veins. In his core, the death magic he’s carefully concealed within the cafe of cold necromantic energy Alexander shared with him, roils as if in hungry excitement.

Alexander melts from the shadows as if he was born from their embrace, not even bothering to spare the wolf a glance, ignoring everything else to look only at Magnus.

As he should.

It’s as enthralling as it is maddening, wishing to be both the shadows embracing Alexander and the splatter of red flecks on his jaw and neck.

shows should have 22 episodes a season again where half of them are low stakes silly fun shit happening. this i believe with my whole heart

And the low stakes silly fun shit episodes should immediately precede the most traumatic hour of television you've ever seen in your life. As nature intended.
