Nedim Begović
Dr. Nedim Begović is a professor of the Islamic law at the Faculty of Islamic Studies of University of Sarajevo and currently a head of Department of Islamic law. He teaches several courses on Islamic law, its history and methodology as well as courses on religion and law and research methods in Islamic studies. He holds a BA in Islamic theology, as well as MA and PhD in Islamic law (fiqh) from the Faculty of Islamic Studies of University of Sarajevo. His research focus is on Islamic law and religion and law studies, in particular freedom of religion. As Fulbright scholarship holder, he spent academic year 2011/2012 as a visiting scholar at the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, the United States. Among his works are Religious Freedom and Muslim Minorities in Europe (Sarajevo: El-Kalem, 2015) and The Contribution of Mehmed Ali Ćerimović to Shari’a Law Science in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo: El-Kalem, 2007). He contributed to Yearbook of Muslims in Europe (Leiden: Brill, 2019), Islamic Tradition of Bosniaks between the two centuries: The Challenges of New Interpretations of Islam (Sarajevo: Institute for Islamic Tradition of Bosniaks, 2018.), European Islamophobia Report 2015 (Ankara: SETA: Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research, 2016) and Secularity and Religion: B&H and Region (Sarajevo: Foundation Public Law Centre, 2015). He also authored a number of papers in scientific journals and translated to Bosnian several books on Islamic jurisprudence and its methodology (usul al-fiqh).
