“As well as” is similar to “and also”, “also” and “in addition”
In that sentence, using “as well as” is ok
“I went to the post office to collect my letter as well as the bubble tea shop to buy milk tea”

A:
A cold snap is a thing, so your original sentence was natural. :) The only thing that seems a little unnatural is the plural “weather forecasters”. If you’re talking about many forecasters, it makes sense. It’s just that people usually only check one weather source, so they would say, “the weatherman/weather guy/weather lady said/is saying”, or even “The forecast is calling for a once-in-a-decade cold snap”, skipping referring to the person altogether.
Sometimes it is pluralized, but generally people say “they’re saying that it’s a…”; they don’t often say the professional title. This is just my own experience as a native speaker. :) But there’s nothing wrong with what you said!
