Education in Nazi Germany examines how Nazism took shape both in the schools, in particular through curricular and textbook changes, and in the youth groups, in which German boys and girls were socialized in accordance with the regime's ideological aims. Offering a compelling new analysis of Nazi Educational policy, this book brings to the forefront an often-overlooked aspect of the Third Reich

At present, the educational concept «Jena-plan» of a German scholar Peter Petersen (1884-1952) has become widespread in the educational systems of some European countries. It is a technology that aims to change the approach to the organization of education and upbringing of children radically. Two tasks are solved in the issue: to reveal the less known biographical data of P. Petersen, and to characterize the most important features of the pedagogical concept put forward by him. The purpose of the study is to determine its significance in the history of European education. The following methods were used: biographical and retrospective analysis, direct observation in some schools in Germany and the Chech Republic, that use «Jena-Plan» in their practice, as well as an axiological approach.
Main results. The concept «Jena-plan» has become quite widespread due to its didactic effectiveness, humanistic orientation and compliance with the age and individual characteristics of children. The technology of using the concept of Peter Petersen on the example of one of the schools in Germany is revealed in the issue. The method of applying the concept in practice, – on the example of «trunk group» and «trunk table» («Stammgruppe» and «Stammtisch» in German), – is shown. The main conclusion of the research is that «Jena-plan» has the prospect of further development in the modern European school. This statement is confirmed by the regular holding of conferences of the movement of adherents of the «Jena Plan», a significant number of schools that fully or partially use the provisions of this concept. Some positive features of this concept can also be used in domestic education.

There is a currently a growing literature investigating the relationship between tuition fee rates and access to post-secondary education. This paper is an analytical review of several existing empirical works that address this relationship. The paper is organized into 3 sections. The first section introduces the existing literature to be examined, and is organized by the studies’ respective geographical locations with the first subsection examining the impact of university tuition fees in Germany—prior to the abolishment of tuition fees in every German state in 2014. The second subsection will consider the relationship between tuition fees and applicants to the MBA program at the global level. The third and final category of this literature review will investigate Canadian tuition fees and enrolment rates. This final section concludes this paper, with a few recommendations for further research.

This paper aims at applying the social violence perspective developed by Kleinman, Das and Locke (1997) on the research of educational experience of the children of Turkish immigrants in Germany. The opportunities for educational mobility and equal participation are identified from the relevant literature, and are analysed from the point of view of social violence and social suffering. One specific characteristic of the German educational system - tracking after grade four, is singled out as having the most detrimental effect on educational opportunities, and reasons for considering it from a collective, instead of individual perspective of suffering outlined. In the conclusion, the implications of considering data pertaining to educational achievement of Turkish youth in a Germany from the point of view of social violence are briefly discussed.

The confrontation of schools and education systems with the magnitude of challenges is not a new phenomenon. The complexity of education lies in its arduous link with the contested ideologies, interests, needs, entities, desires, structures, and the changing nature of the learner and learning (Hargreaves & Shirley, 2012; Smith, 2005). Yet, the social, political, and economic impact of this complexity on the nation-states have alleviated the challenges and issues concerning the 21st century
schools and education systems locally and globally. Being at the crossroads of rapid education reforms, schools, students and educators are dramatically affected by the socio-political problems, immigration,
racism, inequity, socioeconomic deprivation, accountability measures, school failure, violence, insufficient teacher quality, and recently the pandemic Covid-19 (Arar et al., 2020). The burdensome demands from the school leaders, teachers, students, superintendents, and other relevant stakeholders are multiple and more often beyond their power and control. Research on challenging school circumstances poses a wide array of themes but they are limited to certain issues and/or geographies (MacBeath et al., 2007). The growing scholarly interest on the leadership in schools facing extremely challenging circumstances (Ahumada, Galdames & Clarke, 2015; Bush et al., 2010; MacBeath et al., 2007; Smith & Bell, 2014) is manifest, as educational leadership requires critical and ethical practice to transform the undesirable features of schools and societies to desired ones.

Der Bildungsföderalismus ist nach wie vor ein verlässlicher Seismograph zur Erfassung des Zustandes, der Spannungslagen und tektonischen Ebenenverschiebungen in der föderalen Gesamtarchitektur der Bundesrepublik. Wie unter einem Brennglas reflektieren auch die aktuellen bildungspolitischen Großmaßnahmen die Entwicklungsdynamik und das Verhältnis zwischen Bund, Ländern und Kommunen. Nach der Föderalismusreform I und II sieht auch die jüngste Reform des Bund-Länder-Finanzausgleichs Verfassungsänderungen mit bildungspolitisch relevanten Neuerungen vor. Alles deutet dabei auf eine erneute Stärkung und Bündelung von Kompetenzen beim Bund hin. Und dies, obwohl mit dem im Rahmen der Föderalismusreform I geschaffenen Kooperationsverbot eigentlich die Autonomie der Länder vor allem im Bildungsbereich wieder gestärkt werden sollte. Der Bildungsföderalismus entwickelt sich – so die These – jedoch zunehmend zu einem zentralen Feld fiskalischer Kompensations- und Ausgleichszahlungen zwischen Bund, Ländern und Kommunen. Grundlegende Schieflagen in der allgemeinen Finanzausstattung der Ebenen, die sich offenkundig nicht (mehr) auf dem Wege von Finanz-verfassungs-bzw. Finanzausgleichsreformen durch eine aufgabengerechte Neujustierung der Anteile von Bund, Ländern und Gemeinden am Gesamtaufkommen der staatlichen Steuereinnahmen begradigen lassen, werden inzwischen bevorzugt über bildungspolitische Investitionsprogramme nachgesteuert. Dies hat nicht nur Konsequenzen für die durch die Kulturhoheit geschützte Kompetenzwahrnehmung von Ländern und Kommunen, sondern prägt auch zunehmend die föderalen Verhandlungs- und Konflikt-regulierungsmuster im Bildungsbereich. War es in den 1960er und 1970er Jahren vor allem die "Ideologie" in Gestalt parteiprogrammatischer Differenzen, die entsprechende Vetopositionen in bildungspolitischen Verhandlungen zwischen Bund und Ländern sowie im horizontalen Binnenverhältnis der Länder untereinander prägten, avanciert seit einigen Jahren die Steuerungsressource "Geld" immer stärker zum zentralen Medium bildungspolitischer Auseinandersetzungen zwischen den Ebenen. Denn obwohl bei einer Vielzahl der gegenwärtigen bildungspolitischen Großthemen, wie Digitalisierung, Inklusion und Integration, nicht nur ein breiter gesellschaftlicher Konsens, sondern auch nur graduelle Unterschiede in der parteipolitischen Positionierung der "Volksparteien" bestehen, erweist sich die Umsetzung derartiger Konzepte in der föderalen Fläche oft als schleppend und heterogen.

W artykule przedstawiono strukturę, wybrane problemy oraz zmiany zachodzące w ostatnich latach w niemieckim szkolnictwie wyższym. Dyskusje dotyczące szkolnictwa wyższego w Niemczech zaostrzyły się w ostatnich latach. Przyczyniło się do tego zjednoczenie Niemiec. W kraju, w którym przez ponad czterdzieści lat funkcjonowały dwa odmienne systemy szkolne, od roku 1990 ważnym zadaniem stało się przystosowanie szkolnictwa byłej NRD do rozwiązań zachodnioniemieckich. W ostatnich latach równie ważna stała się tzw. perspektywa europejska (europaische Dimension im Hochschulbereich), wymagająca przystosowania struktury i programów szkół wyższych do wymagań obowiązujących w Unii Europejskiej. Od roku 1998 wprowadzono w szkolnictwie wyższym Niemiec procedury akredytacyjne, wymuszające zmiany w jakości kształcenia. Zmianie ulegają również sposoby zarządzania szkolnictwem wyższym. Oprócz pozytywnych przemian ujawniają się także problemy dotyczące powiązania struktury szkolnictwa wyższego i treści kształcenia z wymaganiami rynku pracy, powstawania konkurencji oraz wzrostu autonomii szkół wyższych. Jak dalece hasło „zróżnicowanie i konkurencja”, głoszone przez niemieckie władze oświatowe, znajduje potwierdzenie w strukturze i programach szkół wyższych, to jedno z głównych pytań, na które stara się znaleźć odpowiedź autorka artykułu.

Die vorliegende Studie stellt die Geschichte der ersten höheren Lehranstalt Rüsselsheims seit der Kaiserzeit (1896) bis heute dar. Unter Einbeziehung offizieller und privater Quellen sowie von Archivmaterial wird die Geschichte einer hessischen Schule aus dem Blickwinkel der Schüler, Lehrer und Eltern beschrieben. Dabei werden sowohl die lokalen als auch die bundesweiten historischen Ereignisse wie auch die Meilen-steine der deutschen Schulgeschichte einbezogen. Ein faszinierendes Stück deutscher Schulgeschichte, zugleich ein Beitrag zur Mentalitäts-und Sozialgeschichte.
