A challenge facing the clothing and fashion industry is the need to integrate different perspectives of visionary innovation. Within current circumstances of the industry and contemporary trends, there are many examples of fashion products and ideas being inspired by, or developed from interdisciplinary and technically oriented components. Based on this direction, curricula in fashion design related departments are being revised to take into account different perspectives of innovations and new technologies related with fashion products. In addition, the interaction between university and industry is an important parameter for the dissemination of the innovation concept from different perspectives, a process in which higher education institutes play a critical role. Within this context, a case project was conducted in the Department of Fashion and Textile Design in a university in Turkey. The aim of the project was to promote a new approach to combining material knowhow with the creative process, and thus draw attention to the intersection of fashion design, technology and innovation. Other investigation issues in this study were the necessity of taking an interdisciplinary approach (and research) for innovation and the contribution of university-industry collaborations. A group of students from different design disciplines were given topics related with technically enhanced fabrics, such as high-visible fabrics, thermal range fabrics, industrial launderable fabrics, flame retardant fabrics and microencapsulated fabrics. Creating a design concept embracing these technical areas was seen as presenting a suitable level of challenge for students. A knitwear production company provided the fabrics for use in student products. At the end of the project, student projects were assessed by university instructors and company representatives. Student comments were also evaluated through survey analyses. Therefore, evaluation of projects was based on three main pillars: the instructors, the company and the students themselves. As a result, it was seen that this project was a new approach for students, and helped them to work with different restrictions in design to find innovative solutions. The climate change education (CCE) is understood as a component of environmental education and education for sustainable development. Its core concept is CC literacy, which means that students understand the scientific concepts related to CC and the relationships between them, as
well as the effects of CC and their own activities on the environment. CCE is multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary. Multidisciplinarity means that knowledge of various individual sciences is needed. Interdisciplinarity, on the other hand, incorporates elements from a variety of disciplines
and also integrates environmental, economic, social and political issues.

"This study gathers and interprets the earliest extant references to architects in ancient Greek philosophy, as found in select works of Plato and Aristotle.  Throughout this review, Plato and Aristotle [are] shown to consistently present architectonic agents as exemplary civic and intellectual leaders, acting in awareness of their own (and others’) limits, with knowledge of the most appropriate archē, and with a view to the most comprehensive aims—the common good. This discloses an alternative and more accurate etymology of architects: not as master-builders but as leaders and makers of beginnings (archai). The aim of this essay has been not only to rediscover the discursive beginnings for a renewed philosophy of architecture, but to suggest how these philosophical 'archai' might help present-day architects reimagine the full relevance of their still contested role."

Comparative literature deals with the study of literature in the broadest possible framework--interlingual, intercultural and interdisciplinary. Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 – 1882), an essayist, philosopher, and poet, was one of America’s most influential thinkers and indisputably the central figure of the American Renaissance of the mid-19th century. Sohrab Sepehri is a distinguished modern artist. Familiar with Buddhism, far eastern mysticisms, and western literary schools, he combines the eastern concepts with western techniques, thereby writing a kind of poetry unsurpassed in the history of Persian literature. 
    While the number of works written on the influence of Persia on Emerson and the similarity between the American figure and Persian thought is noteworthy, unfortunately very few comprehensive works are written to compare Emerson with a Persian literary figure and even worse is that just one is written to compare Emerson with Sepehri. Therefore the collection of comparative works written on Emerson and Sepehri lacks some comprehensive comparative works in English on the Persian poet and his American counterpart. The main intention in this study is to introduce Sepehri to non-Iranian audience, especially English-speakers, by means of comparing and contrasting him with Emerson, a figure highly reputed in the international level, especially in the English-speaking countries.
    Chapter one is introduction and review of literature. Chapter two is biography and works of Emerson and Sepehri. Chapter three is nature, death, literary theory, and the influence of Persian poetry on Emerson. Chapter four is nature, death, literary theory, and the influence of Persian poetry on Sepehri. The last chapter is a conclusion which summarizes the three previous chapters and compares and contrasts Emerson's literary theory, the influence of Persian poetry on him, and death and nature in Emerson's works, with the corresponding items in Sepehri.

ادبیات تطبیقی به مطالعه آثار ادبی از زبان ها و فرهنگ های متفاوت می پردازد. مقایسه آثار ادبی با دیگر محصولات فرهنگی نیز در این حیطه از مطالعات ادبی قرار می گیرد. رالف والدوامرسون (1882-1803) فیلسوف، شاعر، متفکر تاثیرگذار و بدون شک چهره ی شاخص مکتب تعالی گرایی آمریکا می باشد. وی از عقاید مذهبی و اجتماعی هم عصران خود جدایی گزید و فلسفه ی تعالی گرایی را تقویت کرد. این شخصیت بر بسیاری از  نویسندگان بعد از خود نیز تاثیر گذار بود. سهراب سپهری(1359-1307) ، هنرمند معاصر ایرانی، از بزرگان شعر نوی فارسی به شمار می رود و از نقاشان مطرح معاصر نیز می باشد. آشنایی وی با بودیسم، عرفان های شرقی و مکاتب ادبی غرب به وی کمک کرد تا مفاهیم شرقی را با تکنیک های غربی در هم بیامیزد و گونه ای از شعر را خلق کند که در تاریخ ادبیات فارسی بی سابقه است.
اگر چه پژوهش های قابل توجهی در مورد مشابهت آرای امرسون با اندیشه های ایرانی و تاثیر پذیری وی از این اندیشه ها صورت گرفته ولی متاسفانه در خصوص مقایسه ی این شخصیت با ادیبان ایرانی فعالیت چندانی نشده است. بنابراین خلاء عدم وجود پژوهش کافی در مقایسه ی امرسون و سپهری  در مجموعه آثار تطبیقی به زبان انگلیسی در مورد مقایسه ی امرسون با شخصیت های ایرانی احساس می شود. پایان نامه ی پیش رو گامی است کوچک در راستای پر کردن این خلاء. نویسنده می کوشد تا از طریق مقایسه ی سپهری با امرسون، این شخصیت ایرانی را به مخاطب جهانی، به ویژه خوانندگان انگلیسی زبان بشناساند. 
فصل نخست شامل مقدمه و پیشینه پژوهش می شود. فصل دوم به بررسی زندگی و آثار دو شخصیت می پردازد. فصل سوم دربردارنده نظریه ادبی، مرگ، طبیعت و تأثیر ادبیات فارسی بر امرسون می باشد. فصل بعد به همین موارد در شعر سپهری می پردازد. و در فصل پایانی مقایسه دو فصل پیش از آن به نتیجه گیری می انجامد.

Transdisciplinarity is an important new development in the social sciences. While a lot is being written on its roots and theoretical dimensions there is considerably less on how to actually engage in transdisciplinary inquiry. In this short article I present 5 dimensions of applied transdisciplinarity.

There has been a visible increase in academic productivity in the field of inter- and transdisciplinarity (ITD) over the past decade. Does this greater visibility mean that ITD has entered a ‘golden age’ crowned with universal success, or does this new approach still face difficulties of an institutional, individual, epistemological or methodological nature? Does the researcher who situates himself between or beyond disciplines represent a new scientific profile that is transforming traditional disciplinary identities? Finally, is ITD a simple recombination of existing disciplines with varying degrees of originality, or does it embody a new thought style that calls for the dedisciplinarization of academic structures and the full recognition of its transgressive status? In this paper I shall attempt to answer these programmatic questions and shed light upon the following elements: the inter- and transdisciplinary approach is underway and still – beyond its potentialities and success – faces some obstacles; interdisciplinary research is often promoted or claimed, but it is sometimes not recognized as a form of research in its own right; and taking seriously the issues of ITD involves rethinking disciplinary identities. It represents a new thought style and a promising future for education and research.

Este trabalho analisa Ovos verdes e presunto, o quarto livro infantil mais vendido de todos os tempos, como um estudo de caso, para ponderar que a literatura infantil não-didatizante é uma fonte fundamental do direito. O artigo parte da categorização da literatura infantil como constitutiva de regras comportamentais internas junto à criança-leitora, e dessas regras como cruciais para nortear o comportamento humano. O argumento defendido é de que as regras comportamentais que podem ser sintetizadas a partir da literatura não-didatizante compartilham as principais características das leis e são inclusive mais fundamentais do que as fontes tradicionais do direito. Por fim, apresentam-se dois exemplos de regras comportamentais que podem ser sintetizadas a partir de Ovos verdes e presunto, uma sobre a importância da persistência e outra sobre a importância de se manter a mente aberta.

Resumo: Neste artigo procuramos investigar como as representações de relações sexuais, presentes em cunhagens romanas do período imperial, podem ser lidas tanto como referências a práticas sexuais, como também como alusões, ainda que indiretas e sutis, às relações entre governantes e governados. A metodologia baseia-se na multidisciplinariedade, tendo como eixo as áreas de História, Antropologia, Semiótica e Numismática.
Abstract: the paper studies sexual intercourse images in Roman imperial coinage. They refer directly to sexual intercourse, but may also be interpreted as suggestive allusions to relations between subjected people and their masters. An interdisciplinary approach includes a mix of historical, anthropological, semiotic and numismatic perspectives.

Disaster management is one area in the field that comes with a heavy burden of administrative functions and compliances. Thus, it is vital to consider among managers to put the best man in the field. The purpose of this study is to find out the disaster management program compliance of participants in two provinces in Central Luzon, Philippines. At the same time, identify the problems encountered during the implementation of the programs. This study used a descriptive design with the survey as a primary instrument in data gathering. 110 participants took part in the survey which came from the two selected provinces. The researcher created a questionnaire for the study which underwent validity and reliability test. This study analyzed the gathered data using SPSS 20 and employed the following statistical tools: frequency, percentage, rank, means, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson-r. Dans notre société de communication, de connaissances mobiles et d’incertitude, la production et la diffusion des savoirs scientifiques connaissent une accélération particulièrement marquée. Les savoirs s’entrecroisent en dépassant les frontières entre les disciplines des sciences humaines et sociales et des sciences naturelles, de la vie et des technologies. Comment des concepts, des théories ou des méthodes circulent, s’échangent, s’empruntent, se transfèrent et se transforment dans le passage d’une discipline à l’autre ? En quoi cette pratique interdisciplinaire est-elle une plus-value créative dans la production de connaissances nouvelles pour comprendre des problèmes impossibles à résoudre à partir d’un seul regard discipliné ? Yayoi Kusama: a universe of infinite dots fighting between life and death. A journey through the different materials and techniques used by the multifaceted artist Yayoi Kusama (Matsumoto, Nanano Prefecture 1929), will allow us to take a space-time journey that begins in the devastated post-World War II Japan, stops in New York City in the 1960s and returns to Japan in 1973. Drawings, paintings, collages and assemblages, novels and poems, sculpture, installations, films and performances make up a broad and profound artistic production that questions what we are and what it means to live and die.

This paper presents – in the vein of a multi-modal form of practice led research – a radical shift from my position of being rooted in architecture and its making, towards its unmaking. This interrogative process – of architecture in reverse – has emerged from an architectural education and practice-base of doing, the focus of which I am currently in the process of shifting towards a practice of architectural undoing, within an art context. I see this emerging practice, against architecture, as a necessary way of promoting broader debate – via a direct critique of the established, self-assured and institutionalised architectural profession – around the propriety and relevance of the generally uncritical attitudes which govern the form of the built environment which frames our everyday.

Via The Matter of the Castle (2000) – an architectural design proposal which uses the notion of physically shifted building matter as a catalyst for the (re)generation of a highly politicised and culturally site-specific ‘lost’ architectural form – I contextualise how my practice, applied in the case of this early example, from within the discipline of architecture, embodies some of the beginnings of current architectural (un)becomings. In 2009 two further projects, discussed in this paper, have generated themselves from the immediate locus of the building which houses the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA). These projects are situated in a productive field of tension between the disciplines of art and architecture creating a frictional interdisciplinary dialogue
that permits me to ‘fold’ one field into the other, resulting in the emergent possibility of using architecture, interrogatively, against itself. Applying a multi-modal approach to practice-led research allows me to exploit the slippages of possibility – for decoding and re-presenting architecture, space and power – which exist in the thought-spaces that open up between a critical self-reflective process, and its emergent product(s). As examples of how architectural space can be ‘undone’, I visit these site-specific works – The Matter of the Castle (2000), Auseinandersetzung (2009) and The Nature of a Corner (2009) – and the working processes which led to their realisation, in more detail. In doing so, I treat the three projects as experimental platforms for the testing and developing of the productive slippages and overlaps between and across practice and theory.

As the Byzantinist Ihor Ševčenko once observed, "Philology is constituting and interpreting the texts that have come down to us. It is a narrow thing, but without it nothing else is possible." This definition accords with Saussure's succinct description of the mission of philology: "especially to correct, interpret, and comment upon the texts." Philology is not just a grand etymological or lexicographical enterprise. It also involves restoring to works as much of their original life and nuances as we can manage. To read the written records of bygone civilizations correctly requires knowledge of cultural history in a broad sense: of folklore, legends, laws, and customs. Philology also encompasses the forms in which texts express their messages, and thus it includes stylistics, metrics, and similar studies.

On Philology brings together the papers delivered at a 1988 conference at Harvard University's Center for Literary and Cultural Studies. The topic "What is Philology?" drew an interdisciplinary audience whose main fields of research ran the gamut from ancient Indo-European languages to African-American literature, signaling a certain sense of urgency about a seemingly narrow subject.

These papers reveal that the role of philology is more important than ever. At a time when literature in printed form has taken a back seat to television, film, and music, it is crucial that scholars be able to articulate why students and colleagues should care about the books with which they work. Just as knowledge will be lost if philological standards decline, so too will fields of study die if their representatives cannot find meaning for today's readers.

On Philology will be of interest not only to students of philology but also to anyone working in the fields of hermeneutics, literature, and communication.

This article combines historical analysis with international-relations theory to contend that geopolitical developments around the Eastern Mediterranean in the middle third century BCE were indirectly responsible for the emergence of the Parthian state and a new international system of states in the ancient East. Since the death of Alexander the Great, the Seleucid Empire had ruled over much of the East; however, disastrous military conflicts at home and abroad in the West caused a sudden decline of Seleucid power in the 240s-
230s BCE. The troubles of the Seleucid state caused what political scientists call a power-transition crisis that damaged Seleucid hegemony over the East when the Seleucid satraps of Parthia and Bactria declared their independence. Moreover, the deleterious civil wars between Seleucid dynasts in the West and the rebellions of eastern satraps encouraged the nomadic Parni tribe from the Central Asian steppe (later known as the Parthians), who had been seeking a new homeland for decades, to invade northeastern Iran and establish a new kingdom. With the Parni’s successful conquest of Parthia and its immediate consequences, a new interstate system of tripolarity between the Seleucid Empire, Bactrian Kingdom, and the newly formed Parthian state emerged in the ancient East.

Through recent artistic practices and technology of interactive systems for music, composition and improvisation have more and more blended and interconnected with each other – a sui generis situation now called comprovisation. The concept of comprovisation applies equally well to the spontaneous generation and manipulation of computer graphics, especially as such graphics are systematically coordinated audio-visually, while being subject to spontaneous manipulation by a performer.
This is explained in terms of the Fluxations and FluxNoisations Human Body Interfaces, interactive dance systems that generate music and graphics spontaneously in response to hand and body movement. They enable spontaneous expressive shaping of coherent complexity and variety. Thus a multi-layered multimodal experience arises. The aesthetic experience of this multimedia spectacle relates to experiences of various prior music and visual art of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, as well as to hypothetical physical realities. Thus a kind of cybernetic phenomenology of art is pursued and enacted through an embodied cybersynthesis of art with simulated alternate reality. Call it a pragmatic speculative realism, an adventurous technoetic ‘what if.’ As compared to more traditional forms of improvisation, the opportunities for risk-taking and aesthetic exploration rise to a new level of uncertainty, as the reactions of the improviser simultaneously draw from and target both visual and aural modalities, such that the intentions toward each fuse together."

This book distiled my own way of understanding the relation between epistemology, ontology, and politics, and the best name I found for labelling that way is pragmatic scepticism. Throughout the book, I stay away from the temptation to give a dictionary-like definition of this philosophy. I do not even like to think of it as a philosophy. Instead, I see pragmatic scepticism as a way of being and as a way of relating. A way of being human, i.e. enmeshed in language and limited by our senses; and a way of relating, i.e. crafted by the happy and sad encounters with theories, things, and lifeís happenings. The book is structured in three parts, which together give a sense of the potentials of pragmatic scepticism: as a way of thinking about the world, as a way of approaching theoretical dilemmas, as a way of mapping one's inner contradictions. The first part of the book introduces pragmatic scepticism in relation to the general questions underwriting the philosophy of knowledge and the study of science. The second part is more specific in that it deploys the pragmatic sceptical attitude to the central metatheoretical questions of the discipline of geography. The last part of the book groups under the heading "philosophies of struggle" two more applied essays on the political economy and the political epistemology of conflicts over knowledge in the globalised landscape of higher education in general and geography in particular.

Systems and complexity theories are transversal approaches that provide a new way of thinking as a response to the traditional reductionist approach that emerged with modernity. Complexity and transdisciplinarity are particularly relevant in an increasingly diverse, networked, uncertain, and fast-changing world. Examples are drawn from personal experience in academia, cross-cultural experiences, and the arts.

The appendices below contain examples of interdisciplinary
research projects and areas (Appendix 1) and of
interdisciplinary research structures and networks (Appendix
2). Although many more examples exist, the purpose of these
appendices is to give a short illustration of the variety of
interdisciplinary dimensions at LERU universities. Appendix 3
discusses in more details the definition of interdisciplinarity and
related terms.

Esta nota tiene dos objetivos: refutar ciertos aspectos de la argumentación alrededor de la cual el lingüista Rodolfo Cerrón-Palomino construye su hipótesis etimológica acerca de Cuzco –el nombre de la capital del Tahuantinsuyo–; y proponer, a partir de la discusión anterior, una nueva hipótesis que concuerda mejor con la naturaleza descriptiva de la toponimia andina y con información recogida por cronistas.

Aboriginal Australians carefully observe the properties and positions of stars, including both overt and subtle changes in their brightness, for subsistence and social application. These observations are encoded in oral tradition. I examine two Aboriginal oral traditions from South Australia that describe the periodic changing brightness in three pulsating, red-giant variable stars: Betelgeuse (Alpha Orionis), Aldebaran (Alpha Tauri), and Antares (Alpha Scorpii). The Australian Aboriginal accounts stand as the only known descriptions of pulsating variable stars in any Indigenous oral tradition in the world. Researchers examining these oral traditions over the last century, including anthropologists and astronomers, missed the description of these stars as being variable in nature as the ethnographic record contained several misidentifications of stars and celestial objects. Arguably, ethnographers working on Indigenous Knowledge Systems should have academic training in both the natural and social sciences.

In this paper, I examine the extent of a mutually informing dialogue between two traditionally separate design disciplines: architecture and furniture design. Case studies in the form of a building and a furniture piece (both conceptualised and realised in South Africa by myself) are discussed as a basis for the examination.
In the context of a young South African democracy there appears to be a strong desire, especially within the architectural profession, to establish a nameable South African style or identity. Inherited western-based modes of architectural (and design) teaching, often result in forced, artificial and somewhat naïve attempts at synthesising the multiple cultural presences in this country into over-ambitious ‘Proudly South African’¹ style(s) of expression. As an alternative to the sometimes blind urgency of establishing an all-encompassing expression, I suggest that a more reflective attitude of observation and careful analysis of the existing situation may be beneficial as a point of departure in trying to address this complex challenge.
I show that many architectural ideas are transferable to the design of furniture: the notions of narrative; site-specific design; ways of drawing, façade and the tectonic qualities of realised things, are just some of the tools which can be equally relevant and revealing within and between both disciplines.

" Yeni Gerçekçi Bakışla Çağdaş Sanat-Tasarımda Disiplinlerarası Bir Yaklaşım: Hititler ve Ritüelleri " isimli proje, kültürel belleği ve kültürel mirası çağdaş sanat-tasarım aracılığıyla ele alan disiplinlerarası ve kültürlerarası bir projedir. Proje konsept olarak akış – dönüşüm-yanılsama kavramlarından oluşturulan kurmaca savların, Yeni Gerçekçi bakış açısıyla ve Fluxus mantığıyla yorumlanmasını önermektedir. Tarihte inanç ve ritüellerin Hitit tabletlerdeki örnekleri bulunarak günümüzde ki inanç ve ritüellerle ilişkilendirilmesi, simülatif dünyada büyük bir ikilem yaratmaktadır. Bu ikilem, insanların doğal yaşamdan kopmaları, modernleşme sürecinin getirmiş olduğu yabancılaşma, ötekileşme ile yeniden şekillenmiş ve boyut kazanmıştır. Çalışmanın amacı; kültürel miras-kültürel belleğin önemli öğelerinden olan ritüeller ve inançların araştırılarak, disiplinlerarası bir yaklaşımla çağdaş sanat-tasarım bağlamında ele alıp yeniden dikkat çekmeye, sorgulamaya ve farkındalık yaratmaya çalışmaktır. Proje kapsamında gerçekleştirilen " Hitit Ritüelleri " Karma Sergisi ile tüm sanatçıların çalışmaları irdelenecektir. Abstract
The project with the name ''An Interdisciplinary approach with the neorealistic view in contemporary art and design: The Hittites and their rituals'' is an interdisciplinary and intercultural project which discusses cultural memory and cultural heritage through contemporary art&design. As a concept, the project suggests to comment the fiction arguments which occur flow-transformation-illusion concepts with the view of neorealistic approach and Fluxus reasoning. The relation between the samples of past beliefs and rituals on Hittite epigraphs and today's beliefs and rituals create a paradox. This paradox is reshaped and acquired a new dimension with splitting the natural life, alienation and being marginalized. The purpose of this study is to re-draw attention, question and create awareness about rituals and beliefs which are important components of cultural memory and cultural heritage by an interdisciplinary approach within the context of comtemporary art& design. All the works of artists has been analysed with "Hittite Rituals" mixed exhibition which has been conducted in scope of the project.

This essay proposes an alternative approach to the literature review, presenting it as a creative process of construction and self-reflection within an ecology of ideas. The transdisciplinary literature review is an opportunity to situate the inquirer in an ecology of ideas, to participate in the discourse, and to become aware of how s/he constructs her or his understanding of this ecology. This article explores how we might approach this process from a perspective of complexity, and addresses some of the key challenges and opportunities. Four main dimensions are considered: (a) inquiry-based rather than discipline-based; (b) integrating rather than eliminating the inquirer from the inquiry; (c) meta-paradigmatic rather than intra-paradigmatic; and (d) applying systems and complex thought rather than reductive/disjunctive thinking.
