In this article, we mobilize a theoretical and political critique to the aesthetic and affect that informs ‘white innocence’ and its attempts at witnessing the pain of the Other. Engaging with the work of critical race theorists we put the artistic interventions of Hannah Black and Parker Bright critique of Dana Shutz’s Open Casket in conversation with Teresa Margolles’ Vaporization. In doing so, we explore the epistemological, affective, and aesthetic dimensions involved in the desire of whiteness
to transcend its own matrix of race-power and aestheticization of black suffering. That is, instead of anti-racist and transformative, Schutz’s piece, in our view, remains caught within a Manichean subject/object relationship constituted by a curative relation of mastery and servitude that is inextricably contained with and by the ontology of whiteness. We argue that this dynamic of ‘pornotroping’ mobilizes an aesthetics of hailing and identification that reaffirms white innocence. Margolles’
Vaporization, on the other hand, compels us to engage the space, corporality, and epistemology of flesh outside of the subject/object divide, while confronting us with multiplicities of embodiment as experienced through art and social productions.

Pequeño en dimensiones, de tomos agradables, el cuadro de Fernando Best Pontones sobre La Decena Trágica, firmado y autografiado en 1913, es parte de la "otra" lectura de los hechos, es decir, de la lectura que se pudo hacer desde el flanco de quienes acabaron con el breve verano maderista a la mañana siguiente de su triunfo. Best tenía 24 años cuando pintó su cuadro y comenzaba una carrera que se desarrollaría en la década de la lucha revolucionaria.

Le 26 septembre 2014, le massacre d'étudiants à Ayotzinapa a cruellement remis en lumière des logiques ancrées dans le pouvoir d'État et sa circulation dans la société mexicaine. Le CMDE (Collectif des métiers de l'édition de Toulouse) publie et traduit pour la première fois en français, le livre culte de l'écrivaine et journaliste mexicaine Elena Poniatowska : La Nuit de Tlatelolco. Le sous-titre est en revanche du cru des éditeurs : Histoire orale d'un massacre d'État. Manière de s'engager du côté de ceux qui, comme Poniatowska, ont lutté pour que des mots soient mis sur l'histoire en question, celle du mouvement étudiant mexicain de 1968 et du massacre d'État qui y mit tragiquement fin le 2 octobre, place des Trois cultures dite aussi « place de Tlatelolco » -du nom de l'ensemble résidentiel construit par l'architecte moderniste Mario Pani dans les années 1960.

The capital of the Aztec empire, Tenochtitlan, was, in its era, one of the largest cities in the world. Built on an island in the middle of a shallow lake, its population numbered perhaps 150,000, with another 350,000 people in the urban network clustered around the lake shores. In 1521, at the height of Tenochtitlan’s power, which extended over much of Central Mexico, Hernando Cortés and his followers conquered the city. Cortés boasted to King Charles V of Spain that Tenochtitlan was “destroyed and razed to the ground.” But was it?

Drawing on period representations of the city in sculptures, texts, and maps, The Death of Aztec Tenochtitlan, the Life of Mexico City builds a convincing case that this global capital remained, through the sixteenth century, very much an Amerindian city. Barbara E. Mundy foregrounds the role the city’s indigenous peoples, the Nahua, played in shaping Mexico City through the construction of permanent architecture and engagement in ceremonial actions. She demonstrates that the Aztec ruling elites, who retained power even after the conquest, were instrumental in building and then rebuilding the city. Mundy shows how the Nahua entered into mutually advantageous alliances with the Franciscans to maintain the city's sacred nodes. She also focuses on the practical and symbolic role of the city’s extraordinary waterworks—the product of a massive ecological manipulation begun in the fifteenth century—to reveal how the Nahua struggled to maintain control of water resources in early Mexico City.
