Progression of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA) is associated with inflammation and oxidative stress. Previous studies have shown that there was no difference between RA and OA patients regarding the percentages of the different lymphocytes subsets reflecting the abnormalities in T cells and its subsets that may contribute to the pathogenesis of OA as in RA. Therefore, the present study was aimed to analyze that whether disease activity of OA is able to affect a few serological and biochemical parameters in the same way as RA does or differently. The study was done on 36 asymptomatic controls (25 women), 28 patients with OA (20 women), 36 patients with RA (22 women). Patients with OA were screened according to radiological and clinical finding of Kellgren and Lawrence grade and ACR criteria and assessed by VAS and WOMAC score. Patients with RA were selected who were fulfilling 4/5 symptoms of ACR criteria, and their DAS28-CRP, VAS score, and RF positivity were evaluated. Participants of the groups were matched for sex, age, weight, and height (body mass index). The BMI of all three groups was also found to be the same (P > 0.05). The mean level of LDL, Cholesterol, MDA, CRP, and Triglyceride was significantly (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01) higher in both OA and RA as compared to control. The mean level of total lipid, cholesterol, MDA, CRP, and triglyceride was found to be significantly (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01) higher in RA as compared to OA. The pre-treatment CRP level of both groups of patients showed significant and direct relation with total lipid (r = 0.27, P < 0.05) and cholesterol (r = 0.66, P < 0.01). Inverse relation was observed between Uric acid and Creatinine (r = −0.26, P < 0.05) and cholesterol and HDL (r = −0.34, P < 0.01). Our study shows the similar trend in lipid profile and other parameters studied in both patients with OA and patients with RA with more pronounced changes in RA.

Gamma irradiation is widely used for sterilization; however, its effect on elimination of amplifiable DNA, an issue of relevance to molecular diagnostic approaches, has not been well studied. The effect of gamma irradiation on the viability of Staphylococcus epidermidis and Escherichia coli (using quantitative cultures) and on their DNA (using quantitative 16S rRNA gene PCR) was evaluated. Viability was abrogated at 2.8 and 3.6 kGy for S. epidermidis and E. coli, respectively. The radiation dose required to reduce viable bacteria by one log10 (D10 value) was 0.31 and 0.35 kGy for S. epidermidis and E. coli, respectively. D10 values for amplifiable DNA extracted from bacteria were 2.58 and 3.09 kGy for S. epidermidis and E. coli, respectively, whereas D10 values for amplifiable DNA were significantly higher for DNA extracted from irradiated viable bacterial cells (22.9 and 52.6 kGy for S. epidermidis and E. coli, respectively; P&lt;0.001). Lead is a metallic pollutant emanating from various environmental sources including
industrial wastes, combustion of fossil fuels, and use of agrochemicals. Lead
may exist in the atmosphere as dusts, fumes, mists, and vapors, and in soil as a
mineral. Soils along roadsides are rich in lead because vehicles burn leaded gasoline,
which contributes to environmental lead pollution. Other important sources of
lead pollution are geological weathering, industrial processing of ores and minerals,
leaching of lead from solid wastes, and animal and human excreta. Lead is
nondegradable, readily enters the food chain, and can subsequently endanger
human and animal health. Lead is one of the most important environment pollutants
and deserves the increasing attention it has received in recent decades.

Currently, molecular diagnosis of haemophilia A and B (HA and HB) highlights the excess risk-inhibitor development associated with specific mutations, and enables carrier testing of female relatives and prenatal or preimplantation genetic diagnosis. Molecular testing for HA also helps distinguish it from von Willebrand disease (VWD). Next-generation sequencing (NGS) allows simultaneous investigation of several complete genes, even though they may span very extensive regions. This study aimed to evaluate the usefulness of a molecular algorithm employing an NGS approach for sequencing the complete F8, F9 and VWF genes. Respiratory syncytial virus rapid antigen detection tests (RADT) are used widely. RADT exhibited high specificity (97%) and moderate sensitivity (80%) compared with reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction in 720 hospitalized children <3 years old. Older age, prolonged symptoms, and respiratory syncytial virus genotype-B infection were significantly associated with false-negative results of RADT.

Because the genus Colletotrichum is among the most important groups of plant pathogenic fungi worldwide, the ability to accurately diagnose species is vital for the implementation of effective disease control and quarantine measures. Although the long-standing, unresolved taxonomic issues in the genus have recently begun to be addressed through multi-locus phylogenetic research, the tools most commonly used for Colletotrichum species identification are either insufficiently variable (e.g. morphology) or homoplasic (e.g. morphology and host range criteria). In this study, using the systematically well-defined falcate-spored, grass-associated group (FG) of Colletotrichum as a model, we test the utility of ITS sequence data to diagnose species affiliations through similarity-based searches of the NCBI GenBank database or by means of gene trees constructed using phylogenetic methods. 43% of all Colletotrichum sequences accessioned by GenBank are from the ITS region, making it the single most common sequence curated by the community; however, 34% of the ITS accessions existed only as sequence data in the database, with no associated publication. Using Colletotrichum ITS sequence data from 53 FG defined isolates and 16 falcate-spored, non-graminicolous isolates to perform GenBank BLAST searches, we found that erroneous identifications were possible for 86% of the 14 species tested. In contrast, the phylogenetic tree generated by the ITS sequence data, although poorly supported by bootstrap values, correctly grouped most of the species, but 10% of the individual isolates were incorrectly placed. From this study, we conclude that the currently available infrastructure of Colletotrichum ITS sequence data may yield unreliable species diagnoses, particularly when sequence similarity alone is the only criterion applied.

Phenylhydrazine (PHZ), a potent chemical causes toxicity on various tissues at various levels. Administration of phenylhydrazine mainly causes haematotoxicity which leads to the haemolytic anemia. In mammals PHZ induced anemia increased the iron absorption in spleen, liver and duodenum and finally iron metabolism was altered. Local demand and supply of Fe would increase erythropoeitic activity of the spleen so the size of spleen was increased that create the splenomegaly. PHZ induced anemia activate immune response which triggers phagocytosis in the spleen and liver. Apart from this administration of PHZ interfere the binding of erythropoietin (EPO) with erythropoietin receptors (EPOR) so that JAK-STAT would be affected.PHZ also showed genotoxic effect by creating single strand DNA damage.

Lumpy skin disease (LSD) causes huge economic losses in the livestock industry. It is
caused by Lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV), which belongs to the family Poxviridae,
with the Neethling strain the prototype. LSDV belongs to the genus Capripoxvirus that
includes sheep pox virus and goat pox virus. LSD is an enzootic infectious, eruptive and
seldom fatal disease of cattle characterised by nodules on the skin. Cattle and water
buffalo are the only animal species affected, with high morbidity rate, but low mortality,
however, death rates are higher among calves. LSD causes loss of milk and beef
production, abortions in females and sterility in males. The original foci of LSD are
from Zambia in 1929. LSD is considered as an endemic disease in the African continent.
However, the disease has been moved beyond Africa in 1984. It is reported in
Madagascar and some countries in the Arab Gulf Peninsula and Middle East. Recently,
the disease has been reported in LSD free countries (Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey,
Iran and Iraq) with potential economic loss to the livestock industry. This review article
intends to discuss the LSD in the light of the recent situation raises concerns the
spreading of the disease in LSD free countries.
