RESUMEN:
La deconstrucción irrumpe en el pensamiento de la escritura, como una escritura de la escritura, que por lo pronto obliga a otra lectura: no ya imantada a la comprensión hermenéutica del sentido que quiere-decir un discurso, a su fondo de ilegibilidad y de deseo de idioma–, a las fuerzas no intencionales inscritas en los sistemas significantes de un discurso que hacen de éste propiamente un “texto”, es decir, algo que por su propia naturaleza o por su propia ley se resiste a ser comprendido como expresión de un sentido, o más bien “expone” éste como efecto –y con su legalidad y necesidad específica– de una ilusión para la conciencia.

The philosophy career of one of the most prominent figures of 20th century, Jacques Derrida which started as a phenomenology interpreter turned into a deconstruction style of the existentialist metaphysics that took the text into consideration. Derrida, who questioned the  structure of linguistics by saying that there is no difference between Signans and Signatum, claims that the linguistics gave way to the domination of metaphysics. The deep interest shown for literature that started his journey into the philosophy, in the life time of Derrida, plays an important role, in his questioning of concepts like identity, language, homeland and religion, at earlier ages, from the II. World War to the independence of Algeria. Derrida does not possess a theory of his, nor can be interpreted as a follower of a specific tradition. However, the texts of the leading thinkers like Nietzsche, Husserl and Heidegger are a starting point of his deconstructive methodology. In this text, by starting from his life, the sources of his method are studied and its reflections in politics, justice, law, sovereignty are discussed. It has been observed that these titles are not elaborated as much the leading research fields of his methodology such as literature, metaphysics, sociology. The method taken from Derrida who says “There is nothing outside the text” includes the defragmentation of the texts and prescribes an interpretation. This path has been followed for deciphering the method, the examples of the thinkers view in politics, justice, law, sovereignty have been presented.

Este artículo relaciona las cartas del Tarot denominadas El Loco y El Ermitaño como vínculos creativos de la poética jodorowskyana. Se relacionan a estas figuras los conceptos de “pensamiento viajero” y “escritura fragmentaria” como tópicos del clima cultural posmoderno y se revisan fragmentos de la escritura poética de Alejandro Jodorowsky a través de la estrategia deconstructiva derrideana.

In this paper I intend to provide a comparative reading of Chris Marker’s La Jetée and Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys (1995), which mentions La Jetée in the credits as an inspiration.  The structures of temporality in La Jetée and 12 Monkeys are at odds with each other.  I will try to distinguish a set of features that in relation to the dialectics of time brings about different modes of inscribing the passages of memory in these two films.  It appears that Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys adheres all through the narrative to a conception of time that can best be described as linear, as continuous, and, in line with Hollywood’s penchant for continuity editing, i.e., seamless flow of the narrative without any apparent disjuncture.  Whereas in La Jetée, on the other hand, as David Rodowick suggests, “the image of time is no longer reduced to the thread of chronology where present, past, and future are aligned on a continuum” (emphasis mine).

This article, forthcoming in Das Fremde und Das Eigene (Röhrig Universitätsverlag) addresses the mixing of self and other,  sexuality and philosophy and literature and irony in Early German Romanticism. It concludes with a thesis about the necessity of another approach to what Friedrich Schlegel called the "authentic language" (die reel Sprache), i.e.," error, madness and simpleminded stupidity." In a tradition from Mallarmé to Bataille, Blanchot, Paul de Man to Avital Ronell's recent book 'Stupidity', the article argues for the necessity to take the risk of giving over to the "authentic language", rather than always trying, as the dominant philosophical tradition has always done, to contain and control it, and defend itself against it.

Lo scopo dell'elaborato è quello di interrogare la proposta filosofica derridiana al fine di comprendere e complicare il tradizionale apparato metafisico classico. Quest'ultimo, infatti, si basa su una congenita bipartizione del pensiero in coppie oppositive: tra queste, spicca per importanza e pregnanza la dicotomia umano/animale. Si tratterà questo tema facendo particolare riferimento al concetto di traccia, così come è sviluppato da Derrida nell'arco della sua produzione teorica.

Philosophy – whether traditional or contemporary – has nothing to say about the human metaphysical predicament, and cannot even offer a basic phenomenology of the human condition. Part of the problem is the ongoing confusion as to what philosophy actually amounts to, and what it can achieve. It is necessary to demystify philosophy, and have it restricted to the discipline of critical thinking, and it should not be thought of as possessing any substantial theoretical content of its own. It is a method, a skillset, a series of techniques, not a repository of various highbrow theories, whether about mind, epistemology, ontology, cosmology, science, or anything else. Metaphysics is an entirely distinct and separate field of inquiry, and concerns the human predicament, and ultimate human fulfilment, and it is to this end that critical thinking skills can usefully be applied. The purpose of this short study is to give some help to those hoping to gain an insight into the metaphysical realms of their being, and who would like some guidance with regard to those formal and academic disciplines supposedly geared to dealing with that very subject.

Abstract: This paper reads al-Futuhat al-Makkiyyah by Ibn ‘Arabi through L’Entretien infini (The Infinite conversation) by Maurice Blanchot to criticize the dominant idea of oneness and unity of being in metaphysics. To go beyond this, Blanchot proposes in the human experience a new set of relations in which the human comes into existence by being in relation with the One which is no longer a unified essence but rather is the Other unknown and is always in the process of becoming. Here, the human becomes an other facing the Other having an absolute singular relation every single moment causing the strangeness and the interruption in their being. By
reading Ibn ‘Arabi’s idea of the Onness/Manyness while thinking of Blanchot’s new kind of relationship, it is argued that God and the human are neither the One nor the many. They are perpetually distancing themselves from each other in close proximity without standing in a one/many relationship.

In this paper, “Memories of a Catastrophe: The Trauma and the Name in Mira Nair’s The Namesake (2006),” I explore the complex nexus between memory, trauma, desire, and the name in the Indian diaspora in the United States.  I will point out that the significance of naming and narrating cannot be exaggerated in the discourse of memory. In Mira Nair’s The Namesake, adapted from Jhumpa Lahiri’s novel of the same name, the name of the famous Russian author Gogol is presented as an overarching metaphor, like the bridges (Hawrah Bridge in Calcutta and Queen’s Bridge in New York) in the film.  As a marked and loaded signifier, this “ur-phenomenon”—Gogol—is both the name and the story.  The traumatic moment (a near fatal train accident experienced by Ashoke, the protagonist) marks the presence of the book (literally a lifesaver) whose author’s name stamps its signature on this terrifying moment that will haunt him for this rest of his life. Gogol is the archetypical sign of the events gathered around a singular crisis, a moment of the archetypal trace, from which both the film and the novel derive their sustenance. All beginnings and endings are ultimately realized, given a meaning and solace, in Gogol’s name, in the name of Gogol.  For Ashoke, every critical moment, every crisis, can be understood by thinking of Gogol and “The Overcoat.”  As if the answer to the trauma lies in the trauma itself.
In this paper, I argue that this trauma that is named after Gogol is the naming of the trauma, which leads to its own annihilation in memory.  I provides an exegetical reading of a passage of Hegel’s Encyclopedia of Philosophical Sciences (1830) on Gedächtnis (Memory) and Erinnerung (Recollection).  “We think in names."  Gedächtnis, the thinking memory, which thinks, as Derrida says, in “the name of ‘memory’ and [in] the memory of the name” is the basis of my philosophical enumeration of the film.  Following that strain of thought, I explore the relationship between name and memory through some of Derrida’s most profound interrogations of this subject.

RESUMEN Los textos que Jacques Derrida dedica a Sthéphane Mallarmé permiten plantear una noción de escritura como operación diseminante que ejerce dispersión espacial y temporal (diffèrance) sobre el libro, el sentido, el sujeto. La diseminación va acompañada de procedimientos de composición que no siguen criterios necesariamente semánticos, puesto que son espaciales y contingentes. Se remite a Un golpe de dados jamás abolirá el azar, a Mímica y a las lecturas que Derrida propone al respecto de estos textos, ya que cuestionan la lectura temática soportada en núcleos de significado, la reducción a unidades indivisibles o sustanciales. Con ese propósito, inicialmente, se tratará la cuestión del libro, de la imposibilidad de su totalización y clausura. A continuación, se destaca que la escritura opera como reiteración de huellas, como redoblamiento de marcas. Finalmente, se muestra cómo está en marcha esta noción de la escritura diseminante en el poema Un golpe de dados jamás abolirá el azar. DERRIDA Escritura y crisis del libro Si se quisiera sintetizar en un breve esquema temático-analítico el "contenido" y las partes del libro La diseminación (1975) se podría decir que: 1) la primera parte titulada "Fuera del libro" se ocupa de la imposibilidad del prefacio; 2) que "La farmacia de Platón" se ocupa de la escritura y la mímesis en los Diálogos; 3) que "La doble sesión" problematiza las lecturas temáticas, metaforicistas o psicologistas de Mallarmé; 4) que la parte titulada "La diseminación" presenta una lectura de la novela Números de Phillipe Sollers.

Este libro es la traducción al español de la célebre introducción a la edición en inglés (1976) de: De la grammatologie (1967) de Jacques Derrida; algunos años después de la traducción al español, en el año 1972. La autora nacida en 1942 en Calcuta, India, impulsa con su traducción la recepción de las obras de Jacques Derrida en los Estados Unidos, obras cuyo debate y acogida marcarían algunas líneas de la academia en Norteamérica: estudios culturales, postcoloniales y de género. Más allá de una simple introducción, Gayatri delinea elementos de su propio pensamiento, en particular, el cruce “entre” materialismo y deconstrucción; igualmente, la problematización del sujeto como dominador, es una constante que la autora explora en torno a la deconstrucción.

Modern reality is a reality of decreation, in which our revelations are not the revelations of belief, but the precious portents of our own powers.

The Rhetorics of Paul de Man

This paper aims to define the extension of Rhetoric as conceived by Paul de Man, particularly in his well-known masterpiece Allegories of Reading, but also in in his last essays (posthumously collected in Aesthetic Ideology).
According to de Man, the figurative structure of language must be identified not only with literature, but with language as such. Figure dis-figure language by means of metaphor, and – at a second degree – allegory undoes figural language.
Perhaps the most important theme introduced by de Man’s late reflection about aesthetics, and especially about the link between rhetoric and ideology, concerns the critique of ideology. The unmasking of ideology should be the result of a rhetorical analysis conducted with the tool of «the linguistics of literariness». At the end of my paper, I try to interpret what is the meaning of this apparently structuralist expression, and why it should be related to a reading of Marx’s German Ideology.

Stawiane tu pytania o autowizerunek filozofa nie są pytaniami ponowoczesnymi (są jawnie nowoczesne i tradycyjne), chociaż, jak sądzę, są one kluczowe, w ponowo- czesności. Prezentowana tu dystrybucja ról filozoficznych w kulturze i w społeczeństwie odsyła bezpośrednio do dzisiejszych kontrowersji, pokazując z odmiennej perspektywy ich potencjalne - rzecz jasna nie jedyne - tło. Zanim zaczniemy od rozważań wokół Hegla i przejdziemy do uwag na temat uwikłań filozofii w politykę, chciałbym przywołać pewną myśl Richarda Rorty’ego: the self-image of a philosopher (...) depends almost entirely upon how he sees the history of philosophy , To właśnie w sporach wokół Hegla i Nietzschego w powojennej myśli francuskiej będziemy tu szukać sporów wokół autowizerunku filozofa, zgodnie z Rortowską, mimochodem rzuconą wskazówką. Zacznijmy więc od Hegla. Na początek wyjaśnienia wymaga kilka spraw: choćby tytułowy zwrot „tyrania Hegla”. Otóż interesuje nas tutaj przemożny i trwały wpływ, jaki wywarł on na tuż przedwojenną i powojenną myśl francuską, o tyle jednak, o ile stała się ona obiektem głębokiej niezgody i rozległej krytyki ze strony kolejnego pokolenia filozofów i myślicieli, pokolenia ponowoczesnego, kierującego się w stronę na nowo odczytywanego Nietzschego. A zatem analizować tu będziemy teksty pokolenia Alexandre’a Kojeve’a, Jean Hyppolita, Georgesa Bataille’a, czytającego i komentującego Hegla - głównie z Fenomenologii ducha - przeciwko któremu wystąpiło pokolenie Jacąuesa Derridy, Michela Foucaulta czy Gillesa Dełeuze’a. O ile Hegel był dla pokolenia pierwszego mistrzem myślenia, maitre a penser, o tyle dla drugiego był on już tylko (i aż) postacią, od której trzeba się koniecznie uwolnić. Paradygmatyczne przestawienie akcentów z Hegla na Nietzschego - ujawnione zostało z największą mocą w dwóch książkach: Gillesa Deleuze’a Nietzsche i filozofia oraz Pierre’a Klossowskiego Nietzsche i błędne koło. Od tamtej pory już nie Hegel, a właśnie Nietzsche zdaje się nadawać (do niedawna3) ton francuskiej myśli filozoficznej. Pytanie, które należy w tym miejscu postawić brzmiałoby choćby tak: co to był za Hegel, wobec którego tak solidarnie wystąpiło pokolenie uczniów Hyppolite’a (wręcz najzdolniejsi uczestnicy jego seminariów - jak Derrida i Foucault)? Kim był Hegel dominujący w intelektualnym życiu Francji przez niemal trzydzieści lat, od zrazu nieśmiałych i elitarnych wykładów Kojève’a z Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes z lat 1933-1939, po seminaria heglowskie u Hyppolite’a prowadzone w Collège de France na przełomie lat sześćdziesiątych i siedemdziesiątych? Pytanie o tamtego Hegla - odczytywanego głównie z głośnego, czwartego rozdziału Fenomenologii poświęconego dialektyce „panowania i niewoli”5 - pomoże nam w rozwikłaniu kwestii skomplikowanych relacji z Heglem myślicieli ponowoczesnych dzisiejszej Francji, co z kolei pomoże nam w analizie dokonujących się przemian autowizerunku filozofa. Odnosimy wrażenie, iż nie można zrozumieć francuskiej antyheglo- wskiej scenerii bez pytania o to, jaki to był Hegel, skąd się wziął i w jakich okolicznościach się pojawił. I rzecz nie w analizowaniu francuskich studiów czy badań heglowskich z okresu przedwojennego i powojennego, bo nie one miały wpływ na dzisiejsze i wczorajsze kulturowe oblicze Francji, a zwłaszcza oblicze jej dzisiejszej i wczorajszej filozofii. Hegel zdominował Francję po wojnie - właśnie tyranizował ją i paraliżował swoją obecnością, swoim dyskursem i pojęciowością, jak zresztą wszyscy późniejsi „mistrzowie myślenia.”6 To on tuż po wojnie narzucił horyzont pytań i odpowiedzi, był bodaj najpoważniejszym autorytetem filozoficznym. Jak to ujął w imieniu swojego pokolenia Michel Foucault w L’ordre du discours, czyli w inauguracyjnym wykładzie w Collège de France w roku 1970 - gdy batalia z Heglem toczona nietzscheańską bronią była już wygrana: „(...) cała nasza epoka, czy to przez logikę, czy epistemologię, czy to przez Marksa, czy przez Nietzschego, próbuje uwolnić się od Hegla.”

Se propone aquí leer la deconstrucción de la soberanía en el seminario de Jacques Derrida, "La bestia y el soberano", a la luz del pensamiento amazónico, el cual sugiere que lo que vincula a la soberanía con la animalidad no es necesariamente una común exterioridad con respecto a la ley, sino capacidades compartidas por humanos y no-humanos que no son exteriores ni al lenguaje ni a la política. En los textos chamánicos suramericanos emerge la relación isonómica entre el jaguar y el chamán como expresión de una cosmopolítica en la cual se implican y se contienen mutuamente la soberanía y la libertad, lo humano y lo no-humano, la vida y la no-vida, la ley y su exterioridad.

On reconnaît traditionnellement qu'un bon traducteur doit aussi faire oeuvre de poète pour recréer dans une langue donnée un texte original. Dans La tâche du traducteur, Walter Benjamin s'oppose à une infériorité de la traduction par rapport à la création, considérant qu'elle révèle au contraire quelque chose de l'essence du langage. L'opération de traduction comme acte de langage est, comme le rappelle Henri Meschonnic 1 , indissociable d'une pensée du langage dans son ensemble et de la littérature en particulier. Elle est le terrain privilégié de la théorie du langage, au sens où celle-ci naît de la pratique, et où cette pratique contient la poétique du langage et du sujet qu'elle met en oeuvre. La question de la traductibilité d'une oeuvre manifeste une parenté intime entre les langues, la manière dont elles font signe vers ce que Benjamin appelle « ce noyau même de pur langage » : « Racheter dans sa propre langue ce pur langage exilé dans la langue étrangère, libérer en le transposant le pur langage captif dans l'oeuvre, telle est la tâche du traducteur » 2 .

En este artículo se exploran algunas de las relaciones entre lenguaje y subjetividad presentes en el pensamiento de Emmanuel Lévinas, principalmente, en sus obras Totalidad e infinito y De otro modo que ser. Asimismo, se expone cómo, para Lévinas, la subjetividad y el lenguaje se implican mutuamente para cuestionar la primacía del discurso ontológico e idealizante en la tradición filosófica. Lo que permite concluir que para Lévinas la subjetividad y el lenguaje son indisociables porque comparten su significancia ética y no ontológica u epistemológica.

Relations between romanticism and deconstruction have been marked on numerous occasions by various theorists of literature and philosophy. While there are points of contact between both perspectives, the use of Romanticism as a necessary antecedent of deconstruction can lead to reductions and equivocations. Therefore, this essay reconstructs a field where such assumptions relation becomes problematic. The reconstruction is based on the concept of irony. Our analysis will focus on: the romantic aesthetics of Friedrich Schlegel, the concept of deconstruction of Jacques Derrida and conceptualizations about the irony of Paul De Man. In these three authors could encrypt relations and tensions between romanticism and deconstruction.

Un realismo politico quello del ‘Repubblicanesimo geopolitico’ che però, rinnovato dalla scuola costruttivista delle relazioni internazionali (Alexander Wendt), pone in primo piano una spazialità non solo geografica  ma anche di natura mentale, rappresentativa e culturale (in fondo la moderna noopolitik non è che una riscrittura postmoderna dell’estetizzazione della politica novecentesca)  e che, proprio perché strettamente vincolato in senso machiavelliano all’effettualità, rifiuta con irrisione tutte le ingenue, quando non interessate, visioni  liberal-neopositivistiche alla Popper e si riallaccia direttamente ai grandi pensatori dialettici Hegel e Marx (da questo punto di vista, il ‘Repubblicanesimo geopolitico’ si distacca drasticamente da tutte le vulgate neomarxiste: in primo luogo perché integralmente dialettico, in secondo luogo perché non cerca surrogati salvifici alla classe operaia ma individua, sulla scia di Gianfranco La Grassa, negli agenti strategici interni ed internazionali gli autentici operatori dell’evoluzione delle società capitalistiche – ma a differenza della versione lagrassiana del marxismo, il ‘Repubblicanesimo geopolitico’ si tiene ben stretta, ed intende sviluppare, la visione dialettica hegelo-marxiana della realtà). Possiamo così affermare che generare una profonda dialettica fra realismo politico e le mai sopite pulsioni verso l’estetizzazione della politica (impresa alla quale fu dedicata la vita del più grande rappresentante della filosofia politica del Novecento, Hannah Arendt, alla quale però fece sempre velo la sua formazione kantiana) sia il compito che si prefigge il ‘Repubblicanesimo Geopolitico’. Un repubblicanesimo, quello geopolitico, che ha pertanto definitivamente abbandonato una visione della libertà intesa come non dominio che ha segnato – ed estenuato – le ormai  vecchie ed attardate  vulgate del neorepubblicaneismo e che è invece fermamente indirizzato alla realizzazione di una autentica, profonda ed intima Vita Activa.

A través de una cercanía transatlántica entre México e Italia, diferentes voces académicas han ido formando un diálogo intercultural, hecho de tejidos heterogéneos, de experiencias de lectura y campos innovadores de investigación, cuya producción escrita presentamos aquí. Los textos de este diálogo son una multiplicidad de multiplicidades: las autoras y autores, que son quienes comparten sus horizontes de vida intelectual, se interesaron explícitamente por trazar un saber de convivencia donde diferentes lógicas y disciplinas humanísticas interrelacionan sus mundos.

Questa lezione del paper AEsthetica Fascistica II, Gesamtkvnstwerk Res Pvblica, presentato nell'ottobre del 2007 a Coimbra, è pienamente giustificata dalla strana combinazione delle sue insufficienze di origine e della sua analisi apparentemente profetica sull'attuale fase turbo-capitalistica, in cui le morenti democrazie si tramutano malignamente in autoritarie e criptofasciste postdemocrazie (come mostrano le ultime vicende politiche italiane col governo Monti e, come, in forma ancora più plastica e drammatica, si vede con la tragedia del popolo greco; un'azione di distruzione, quella verso il popolo greco, che se fosse compiuta manu militari da qualche dittatorello non facente parte dell'UE avrebbe immediatamente scatenata una guerra di reazione da parte delle potenze occidentali con successivo giudizio davanti ai tribunali internazionali del dittatorello stesso, mentre, siccome la perdizione del popolo greco è stata decisa per soddisfare gli interessi della Germania e del turbo-capitale finanziario, il tutto viene rubricato dai mezzi di distrazione di massa come una dolorosa vicenda, magari frutto della cecità politica della cancelliera tedesca o della burocrazia europea e non, come dovrebbe essere, se s'impiegasse un minimo di onestà intellettuale, un crimine contro l'umanità portato avanti con mezzi non militari ma economici). Analisi in realtà molto piatta e di buon senso ma che almeno umilmente accettava di essere guidata dai giganti sulle cui spalle ci si era limitati a salire. Ovvio dire che un rinnovato repubblicanesimo che voglia uscire dall'attuale stato di sterile dibattito accademico storico-filologico sulle sue origini ed indicare una via d'uscita dall'attuale stato delle cose poliarchico-postdemocratico a guida turbo-capitalistica di morte della democrazia debba almeno dimostrare eguale umiltà verso tutta la migliore tradizione filosofica e filosoficopolitica occidentale di liberazione dell'uomo. E inutile aggiungere che questo rinnovato repubblicanesimo dovrà fare ammenda anche di molte di quelle pecche rappresentate in questo paper. Ma delle quali si omette una pur minima indicazione sia perché la loro scoperta è continua e sempre in evoluzione anche per l'autore stesso e, soprattutto, perché questo continuo cercare e rettificare costituisce forse l'elemento più importante per una reale Vita Activa, in cui il perdono che ci viene concesso per le nostre azioni e le sue irreversibili ed imprevedibili conseguenze, questo paper compreso, è l'elemento più importante per poter ogni volta ricominciare, riscrivere le narrazioni e conferire così senso alla vita dello zoon politikon e della polis; una eterna riscrittura individuale e collettiva che costituisce l'orizzonte della vera azione di liberazione contro i decreti apparentemente inappellabili, ma invece sempre continuamente ridiscussi e rovesciati, di ogni potere autoritario e del destino apparentemente mortale dell'uomo ma invece sicuramente immortale attraverso l'incessante suo agire generatore dei suoi eterni simboli e narrazioni. The romantic, nineteenth-century image of the Bedouin as fierce, independent nomads on camelback racing across an endless desert persists in the West. Yet since the era of Ottoman rule, the Mzeina Bedouin of the South Sinai desert have lived under foreign occupation. For the last forty years Bedouin land has been a political football, tossed back and forth between Israel and Egypt at least five times.

This thesis questions the notion of non-aesthetic materiality in painting. Beginning with a concern for the monochrome in early modernism, it discusses the idea of materiality in the works of Kazimir Malevich and Alexander Rodchenko on the basis of different interpretations of faktura as discussed by David Burliuk and Mikhail Larionov. The monochrome is further developed through a post-Greenberg, post-Kantian discussion of material as read by Paul de Man, and de Man’s notion of pure, radical materiality is introduced and delimitated against a traditional, phenomenal account of materiality. These two forms of materiality are explored through the work of Agnes Martin, which also provides the ground for the progression from the material turn as manifested in the works of the Russian avant-garde and the writings of Greenberg to the linguistic turn as proposed by de Man. De Man’s call for a non-phenomenal, linguistic turn in art that allows the observer to read a picture rather than to imagine meaning is discussed in detail. The findings of this discussion anchored by Kazimir Malevich and Agnes Martin are brought to bear on Markus Amm’s work. In the Conclusion, the idea of materiality oscillating between its phenomenal and non-phenomenal forms of manifestation will be distilled from the discussion and tied into questions relating to my own practice.

The image of the ‘angel of history’ forms the centrepiece of one of Walter Benjamin’s most famous essays: ‘On the Concept of History’. This text has a troubled exegetical history, with numerous competing interpretations attempting to explain what Benjamin really meant. Few, with the exceptions of Timothy Bahti and Sigrid Weigel, have stopped to examine the fragments’ rhetorical structure or to ask what it is about ‘On the Concept of History’ that leads to such a proliferation of readings. This essay, rather than searching Benjamin’s corpus for the ciphers to decode the fragments’ meaning, instead focuses on the complex rhetorical structure of ‘the angel of history’. It argues that an interplay between grammar and rhetoric induces a multiplication of possible interpretations, and indeed that this poetic density seems to involve an imperative to ‘translate’, both the ‘original’ (German or French) text and its complex relationship with the ‘derived’ English version, both interlinguistically and intralinguistically, as Roman Jakobson (1959) would say. It shows that this complex rhetorical structure actually performs the argument put forward in the fragments about the impossibility of historicist totalising readings of history, yet in its injunction to translate or interpret, ‘bear witness to the unpresentable’ (Lyotard), seems to ask that very impossible over and over again.

Il ‘Repubblicanesimo Geopolitico’ raccoglie queste suggestioni ed intende innestarle nel tronco della tradizione realista della Geopolitica. Un realismo politico quello del ‘Repubblicanesimo geopolitico’ che però, rinnovato dalla scuola costruttivista delle relazioni internazionali (Alexander Wendt), pone in primo piano una spazialità non solo geografica  ma anche di natura mentale, rappresentativa e culturale (in fondo la moderna noopolitik non è che una riscrittura postmoderna dell’estetizzazione della politica novecentesca)  e che, proprio perché strettamente vincolato in senso machiavelliano all’effettualità, rifiuta con irrisione tutte le ingenue, quando non interessate, visioni  liberal-neopositivistiche alla Popper e si riallaccia direttamente ai grandi pensatori dialettici Hegel e Marx (da questo punto di vista, il ‘Repubblicanesimo geopolitico’ si distacca drasticamente da tutte le vulgate neomarxiste: in primo luogo perché integralmente dialettico, in secondo luogo perché non cerca surrogati salvifici alla classe operaia ma individua, sulla scia di Gianfranco La Grassa, negli agenti strategici interni ed internazionali gli autentici operatori dell’evoluzione delle società capitalistiche – ma a differenza della versione lagrassiana del marxismo, il ‘Repubblicanesimo geopolitico’ si tiene ben stretta, ed intende sviluppare, la visione dialettica hegelo-marxiana della realtà).
