"Andrea Gullotta‟s essay, “The „Cultural Village‟ of the Solovki Prison Camp: A Case of Alternative Culture,” follows the history of the Solovki prison camp and describes the intellectual culture that flourished in its early years of existance. Gullotta takes an “internal” approach, relying on documents produced by camp inmates, as well as on memoirs, poems, and other artistic works produced later, but deal- ing with the camp experience."

В статье приводятся сведения о сохранившихся датированных рукописных книгах, переписанных на территории Русского государства в XVI в. Представлена краткая информация (название, дата и место написания, архивные шифры) о примерно 300 рукописных книг, переписанных в городах, монастырях и ряде иных населенных пунктов. В основу исследования положен материал выходных записей на книгах.

В работе рассматриваются особенности исторического сознания русских писцов XVI в., проживавших в различных регионах страны. Как правило, речь шла о сравнительно низких по статусу светских и духовных лицах. Анализируются введенные в широкий научный оборот в 2018 г. автором статьи записи исторического содержания, которые выполняли переписчики книг, завершая над ними работу. Устанавливается, что чаще всего фиксировались события недавнего прошлого, влиявшие на жизнь того локального сообщества, к которому принадлежали писцы: природные катаклизмы, пожары, голод, боевые действия в непосредственной близости от мест работы переписчиков и т.д.
The article deals with the peculiarities of the historical consciousness of the Russian scribes from different regions of the country. As a rule, they belonged to laymen and clerics of the low social status. The author analyses the colophons which were published in 2018 and focuses on those which contain the historical information. It finds out that the events of the recent past which could influence the life of the local society (as a rule, the scribes belonged to these societies) were usually recorded by the scribes. Among the described events were natural disasters, fires, famine, combat actions in close proximity to the work places of the scribes.

The article deals with adventures of an Athos archimandrite Theophanes, who came to Russia in 60ies of 17th century. On suspicion of espionage in favour of the Polish king he was exiled to Kirillo-Belozersly Monastery and then to Solovki. The author surveys Old Russian manuscripts, which contain Theophanes’ works: a description of Athos’ monasteries, an astrological drawing the Seal of Solomon, his letters to patriarch Nikon and a Karelian-Russian phrasebook compelled by him.

В статье рассматривается вопрос о том, имел ли место серьезный конфликт между Иваном IV и рязанской владычной кафедрой в 1569 г. Итоги привлечения ряда новых источников — актов, вкладных книг, монастырских описей, записей на книгах и др. — позволяют по-новому подойти к решению ряда проблем, связанных с изучением отношений власти и Церкви в период опричнины.

The book is devoted to hand-written Karelian-Russian lexical notes dated to the 17th century, discovered in the Solovetsky Monastery library. The book specifies the time of writing and the author of the notes – Archimandrite Theophanes of Athos, who was held prisoner in the Solovetsky Monastery in 1666–1668. The linguistic traits that allow to verify the Karelian dialect basis of the lexical notes and thus describe some characteristic features of the 17th century Karelian language in Pomorje have been identified.

During the ”Archipelago of Common Memory” Summer School our group traveled through Karelia to the Solovetskie Islands. Participants of the school visited museum exhibitions dedicated to the White Sea–Baltic Sea Canal in Medvezh’egorsk (the former center of the canal’s construction) and Povenets (the canal’s current administrative headquarters); the Solovetskii museum, including exhibitions about the “new martyrs” and the history of the Solovetskii camp; Sandarmokh, the site of mass executions of Soviet victims; and memorial sites on Solovetskie Islands. This essay presents preliminary results of my research in which I focus on the narratives presented in different memory sites, including museums and memorials. I show how the victims of Soviet purges are portrayed at the different sites. One of the issues that became apparent during the summer school is that narratives about purges represent victims of these purges differently. A categorization of victims is often present. On Solovki, in the monastery exhibition, thevictims are categorized by their religion, and Orthodox victims are made more visible than others. On the Avenue of Remembrance on Solovki and on Sandаrmokh victims are categorized by their nationality: diasporas have put up memorials to their compatriots. At the White Sea–Baltic Sea Canal Museum in Povenets, on the other hand, victims arerepresented through the eyes of the canal administration as either hard working or lazy. The categorization of victims illustrates some issues surrounding Russian memory of the Soviet purges more broadly—the lack of a single national narrative about the Soviet past and the drive to make sense of this difficult past.

В статье предпринят анализ устной религиозной прозы, связанной с Соловецким монастырем, который в советское время был тюрьмой. Тексты были записа-ны в 2007–2015 гг. от жителей г. Архангельска. Анализируемые нами тексты разножан-ровы, но большую их часть составляют местные легенды. Выделяются тематические блоки: «История монастыря»; «Чудеса, происходящие в святом месте» (с мотивами исцеления человека после пребывания в монастыре, изменения погоды после обращения к святым или по обету, явления или обретения святыни, появления чудесных знаков или знамений, возникновения местночтимых святынь), «Наказание за непочитание святыни». В современной фольклорно-речевой практике жителей г. Архангельска рас-сказы о соловецких чудесах встречаются преимущественно среди образованной части населения и относятся к культуре прицерковного круга. В корпусе соловецких рассказов встречаются как старые сюжеты, так и относящиеся к периоду новейшей истории. Монастырские сюжеты взаимодействуют с тюремными. Часть текстов можно ква-лифицировать как гипертексты, возникшие на стыке устной и книжной традиций. Устные рассказы о Соловках выражают как национальную, так и локальную иден-тичность жителей г. Архангельска, для которых история Соловецкого монастыря является частью их региональной истории.

In 2013–2014 remains from four vaults located in the subterranean room
of the Holy Trinity Zosima and Savvaty Cathedral of the Solovetsky Monastery initially
identified as remains of the archimandrites Porphyry, Theophan, Varlaam, and Ioanniky
were examined. In addition to a standard procedure of identification that includes,
among other things, comparison of the reconstructed images of the deceased with their
portraits made in their lifetime, a set of paleopathological symptoms on the bones of the
skeletons were analyzed. These pathologies along with archival data became a reliable
basis for identifying the archimandrite Porphyry buried in vault No. 4. In other cases
standard anthropological techniques could not provide exhaustive information; alignment
of photographs and paintings was used as indirect evidence in identifying the buried
persons.
