Stakeholder Analysis

Objective: Stakeholders of the organization as those who influence and are affected by it have an important role in the policy-making and planning of the organization. However, not all stakeholders have the same level of interest and power in relation to the organization. So it is necessary to rank them according to these two factors and determine the organization's priority in dealing with them. The purpose of this study is to identify and rank the stakeholders of Iran public libraries and to determine how to interact appropriately with each of them.
Methodology: This study is applied in terms of purpose and quantitative and exploratory in terms of approach. Two methods of documentary analysis and survey have been used to conduct research. First, the potential stakeholders of public libraries were identified by referring to the relevant texts. Experts were then consulted to prioritize the stakeholders. The research community was 50 experts in the field of public library. 41 of the identified experts completed a questionnaire on the interest/power of public library stakeholders. Cronbach's alpha was used to assess the reliability of this instrument. The result of this test was 0.926 and as a result, the reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed. After collecting the questionnaires, the findings were analyzed using descriptive statistics and finally a discussion and conclusion was made.
Findings: Among the 24 identified stakeholders, the Board of Trustees of the Public Libraries Foundation, staff managers, librarians, provincial managers, staff experts, donors, and public library associations in the provinces and counties, were identified as key stakeholders with high interest and low power. Members and patrons, residents of the public library service area, scientific or trade associations, and sellers of library equipment were identified as high-interest, low-power stakeholders. The government and the legislature, municipalities and rural offices, the public media and cyberspace were identified as stakeholders with the high power and low interest. Other stakeholders, including librarian training universities, publishers, digital and audio book platforms, authors of works collected in public libraries, schools, the National Library, mosques, and bookstores, were placed in the fourth category with low power and interest.
Conclusion: Iran Public Libraries Foundation, as the director of public libraries in this country, can interact with each of the stakeholders in proportion to the position of it in the interest/power matrix, in a way that brings the most benefit and the least harm. Because key stakeholders have high power and interest, they must be carefully managed and interacted with seriously and effectively. However, the interaction of public libraries with stakeholders should not be limited to key stakeholders, and appropriate strategies are needed for optimal interaction with other stakeholders. Informing stakeholders about the activities of public libraries, involving stakeholders in the affairs of public libraries, and satisfying high-powered stakeholders are some of the strategies that public libraries can use in interaction with other groups of stakeholders.

Stakeholder approaches have been applied to the management of companies with a view to the improvement of all areas of performance, including economic, health and safety, waste reduction, future policies, etc. However no agreement exists regarding stakeholders, their interests and levels of importance. This paper considers stakeholder analysis with particular reference to environmental and waste management systems. It proposes a template and matrix model for identification of stakeholder roles and influences by rating the stakeholders. A case study demonstrates the use of these and their ability to be transferred to other circumstances and organizations is illustrated by using a large educational institution.

Kegiatan budidaya perairan (tambak) merupakan salah satu driver (faktor penggerak dan  pendorong)  penyebab deforestasi sebesar 1% atau seluas 11.046 hektar dari luas hutan yang terdeforestrasi di Kalimantan Timur seluas 1.140.536 hektar sejak 2006 hingga 2016.
Data dan informasi penelitian terdiri dari data primer dan sekunder. Teknik pengumpulan data primer dilakukan melalui penelitian lapangan dengan Diskusi Kelompok Terarah (FGD : Focus Group Discussion), wawancara, survey dan observasi langsung terhadap responden dan objek lokasi tambak. Proses penciptaan kesadaran terhadap pengelolaan kawasan Delta Mahakam (DM) telah dimulai. KPHP telah melakukan sejumlah dialog dengan para pemangku kepentingan yang lain, termasuk dari instansi pihak pemerintah pusat dan daerah, swasta, akademisi, masyarakat, LSM dan media. Pentingnya meningkatkan kapasitas adaptasi dan mitigasi masyarakat pesisir melalui peningkatan kesadaran masyarakat (public awareness) dengan pendekatan spesifik sesuai dengan kebutuhan masing-masing kelompok masyarakat;  akses informasi, teknologi tepat guna, dan modal untuk kelompok rentan ekonomi sesuai dengan jenis pekerjaan dan pemanfaatan sumber daya pesisir.
Beberapa temuan kunci dan implikasi kebijakan yang dapat dijadikan safeguards (kerangka pengaman) bagi pengembangan tambak ramah lingkungan sebagai bagian dari aksi program penurunan emisi di Kalimantan Timur.

This chapter addresses firms' stakeholder relationships in the politicised global economy with a focus on the following two questions: what is stakeholder engagement about and what should guide corporations when they engage with their stakeholders. Answers to these questions are provided from three distinct viewpoints, namely the economic, critical, and politico-ethical perspectives, on stakeholder engagement. The main argument of the chapter is that since each of the stakeholder engagement perspectives holds a different conception of society, their definitions of and purpose ascribed to stakeholder engagement are also different. After analysing the strengths and weaknesses of each of three perspectives, the chapter develops an integrative perspective on stakeholder engagement. The chapter ends with the discussion on the implications of the new, more holistic perspective on engaging with stakeholders.

Brownfield areas are a major concern in Europe because they are often extensive, persistent in time andcompromise stakeholders’ interests. Moreover, due to their complex nature, from the decision-makingpoint of view, the regeneration of brownfields is a challenging problem requiring the involvement of thewhole range of stakeholders. Many studies, projects and organisations have recognised the importanceof stakeholder involvement and have promoted public participation. However, comprehensive studies providing an overview of stakeholders’ perceptions, concerns, attitudes and information needs when dealing with brownfield regeneration are still missing. This paper presents and discusses a participatory methodology applied to stakeholders from five European countries to fill this research gap, to develop a system to support the categorisation of the needed information and to support the understanding of which typology of information is the most relevant for specific categories of stakeholder also in relation with their concerns. The engagement process consists of five phases: (i) planning and preparatory work, (ii) identification of stakeholder categories, (iii) engagement activities (e.g. focus groups and workshops), (iv) submission of a questionnaire and (v) provision of feedback to the involved stakeholders. Thanks to this process, appropriate stakeholders have been identified as well as their perceptions, concerns, attitudes and information needs. Stakeholders’ perceptions proved to be different according to the country: German and Italian stakeholders perceive brownfields as complex systems, where several issues need to be addressed, while Romanian stakeholders consider contamination as almost the only issue to be addressed; Czech and Polish stakeholders address an intermediate number of issues. Attitudes and concerns seemed to be quite similar between countries. As far as information needs are concerned, similarities between some groups of stakeholders have been noticed: site owners and problem holders are primarily interested in information on planning and financing, while authorities and services providers are interested in more technical aspects like investigation, planning and risk assessment. Some outstanding outcomes emerged from the scientific community and research group, which showed an interest for remediation strategies and options and socio-economic aspects. The research outcomes allowed to create a knowledge base for the future development of tailored and customised approaches and tools for stakeholders working in the brownfield regeneration field.
