The Tigers made their biggest strike of the offseason last night, agreeing to terms with right-hander Jack Flaherty on a two-year deal that allows him to opt back into free agency at season’s end. He’ll be paid $25MM in 2025 and has a $10MM player option for the 2026 season (that increases to $20MM if he makes 15 starts). Even with that fairly pricey pact in place, the Tigers aren’t closing the door on the other marquee free agent they’ve been chasing. ESPN’s Buster Olney reports that Detroit still in pursuit of third baseman Alex Bregman even after signing Flaherty. Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press hears the same, writing that the Tigers have “conducted their offseason moves around their interest in signing Bregman,” ultimately passing on several right-handed bats in whom they also had interest (Christian Walker, switch-hitter Anthony Santander, and Ha-Seong Kim).
With Flaherty on the books, the Tigers’ 2025 payroll projects out to about $142MM, per RosterResource’s estimates. They’re up to $156MM in luxury obligations. That leaves them more than $50MM shy of the franchise-record $200MM player payroll and $85MM shy of the $241MM tax threshold. There’s room to accommodate Bregman, be it on a higher-annual value short-term deal with opt-outs or on the type of long-term, six- or seven-year pact he’s been seeking throughout free agency. The only Tigers guaranteed any salary beyond the 2025 season are Flaherty and infielders Colt Keith and Javier Baez. It’s possible — if not likely — that Flaherty will turn down that player option and head back to the market. Baez owed $25MM in 2025 and $24MM in both 2026-27. Keith is owed just over $24MM total through the 2029 season.
Suffice it to say, there’s ample long-term payroll space available if the Tigers decide that a late agreement with Bregman is the optimal finishing piece to an active winter. Adding Bregman would likely mean optioning top prospect Jace Jung to Triple-A Toledo to begin the season, but he’d be a depth option at either third or second in the event of an injury to Bregman or fellow free agent signee Gleyber Torres. Matt Vierling would presumably spend the bulk of his time in right field, though he could spell Bregman at the hot corner when he needs a breather or perhaps gets a rest day at designated hitter.
Any deal between the Tigers and Bregman would surely be the largest pact ever issued under president of baseball operations Scott Harris. In two-plus years on the job — a portion of it still at least partially in rebuild mode — Harris hasn’t gone beyond a two-year guarantee for a free agent. Flaherty and Kenta Maeda are the only two free agents Detroit has signed for two years under Harris, and no free agent has received more than Flaherty’s $35MM guarantee. The Tigers went six years on their extension with Keith, but he’d yet to even make his MLB debut and received a $28.6425MM guarantee.
Bregman reportedly has multiple six-year offers — one from the Astros (valued at at least $156MM) and one from another interested party that is said to contain an opt-out after year one. The Blue Jays have been suggested as the other team, though it’s not expressly clear that they’ve done so (nor is the value of the other six-year offer known). Beyond the Astros, Tigers and Jays, both the Cubs and Red Sox have been involved in Bregman’s market. Bruce Levine of 670 The Score in Chicago reports that as of yesterday afternoon, the Cubs are still in active talks with Bregman’s camp as well. That’s not really a new development, of course, but it’s further indication that none of the five clubs reported to be in pursuit of Bregman has fully backed down as of yet.
A reunion between Bregman and AJ Hinch?
A reunion between Breman, Tucker, and Pressly?
Bregman*
I’d also like to see a Cubs “reunion” with Dylan Cease and David Robertson to seal up the NL Central and a possible first round playoff bye along with the Dodgers.
lol
A reunion between Elvis Presley and Priscilla ??
That’s inevitable, Bob, just like taxes!
Breggy Bomb’s on his 18th consecutive full-count foul ball with these free agent rumors.
i hope he goes to your Cubs he’s not worth the money he wants.
LOL, I’m hoping your Tigers sign him already.
What team do you root for?Lets hope he goes back to Astros then
Cubs, LOL. Good luck to your Tigers this year. My fav AL team.
what was 1st year you followed baseball?
The Tigers can’t seriously think they can open the season with Matt Vierling at 3b and still consider themselves contenders. Bregman brings so much to any team. It’s time for the two sides to find a meeting point.
Bregman doesn’t make them contender either.Bregman’s not worth money he wants.
The Tigers came with in 1 win of the American League Championship Series in 2024.
They have already established themselves as “legitimate contenders” going forward into 2025.
And, the Tigers have a farm system rated #3 in MLB
that is brimming with top #1 rated talent.
They will be graduating great young talent into the big leagues in ’25, ’26, 27 and beyond.
The Tigers have 2 very highly rated 1B on the way also which is another reason why Torkelson may be expendable in a trade
@SportsFanoooo
OMG….there’s nothing more delusional than a fan who watches his baseball team have a hot couple of months.
They don’t call such things “improbable runs” for nothing.
If you don’t think the path of least resistance is down for the Tigers, you don’t know baseball.
It was Vierling, and McKinstry, and Ibanez, and Jung last year at 3B, and the Tigers did contend. So your hypothesis is lacking foundation. (They really do need a 3B, tho)
Your forgetting we made playoffs partly because of Twins collapse without that their great run wouldn’t of mattered. Also lets remember they only won 86 games,it’s not like they dominated with 100 wins,
You are correct. Don’t need to be tied down to a long contract when so many young players coming up.
They can for all the reasons outlined by others here. Why cripple yourself financially by caving to him when a Jung and Vierling combo would likely combine for close to the same stats offensively, albeit sacrificing some defense.
The Tigers are having a phenomenal off season. However, signing Bregman would be a huge mistake and erase all the gains. I’d rather they trade Tork for Arenado, who is still an elite glove, average bat, and passionate professional.
Bregman should be a plus in the short term, but I’d be fine if they can swing a trade for Arenado. Seems doubtful he’d approve a trade to Detroit tho.
Or even better Tork for the other Nolan…Gorman. two bounce back candidates. Younger and potential long term solution at 3B.
I wonder if Texas would ever let Jung go and what the price would be? Jung bros at 2B and 3B in Detroit next year and beyond!
Phenomenal off season how do you figure that?
Anything can happen with joke of postseason letting teams barely over ,500 in,which was our Tigers were,We need lot of luck and need big improvements,i’ll hold my exitement till they show us they’ve improved on field.
them trash can bangers flock together
first!
Ha! Nope
I met match on this one and relinquished to the “second comment.”
To all my fans and supporters, I will (try to) do better.
We still believe in you. Southern Lion is probably on PEDs anyway.
If you ain’t cheating you ain’t trying.
@southern lion
Astros agree with you there.
wrong piece…it will be a bad contract
Wasn’t a big fan of the Cubs allocating funds toward Bregman, but with him still lingering and the northsiders needing a TOR pitcher, another veteran bullpen piece, and one more big bat, I’m starting to think adding Bregman would be good at this point.
Great signing Tigers….!
Our Lousy GM shapiro and his lackie in Toronto signed scherzer….LOL
Ours spent the same on Cobb. Wanna trade?
Bregman fatigue
Without checking dimensions, I feel like Tiger stadium would eat up a lot of HRs Bregman was able to hit in Houston. Still a great defender and OBP guy, but I could see Bergman’s power getting sapped in Detroit.
Agree with this assessment. Is the situation at 3rd really all that bad in Detroit? Vierling and Jung? How much do you truly gain with Bregman? Harris knows what he’s doing folks.
It’s not necessarily about upgrading 3B per se. The entire team has crazy positional flexibility, something Hinch loves, and Bregman even fits that mold. The team’s biggest weakness is right handed hitting, or hitting lefties in general. Torres effectively replaces Torkelson as lineup regular, so they haven’t “added” a RH bat to the lineup that would have LH’s Keith, Carpenter, Greene, Meadows, Jung, Sweeney and SH Perez, who is a natural lefty.
Combine that with an overall lack of veteran presence–Vierling at 27y was the elder statesman–and Bregman checks a ton of boxes.
There is also a defensive element to it. Jung is a natural 2B and was only average defensively there. Keith was already moved to 1B cuz of defensive concerns. Sweeney at SS is above average but his bat is still an unknown. Baez at this point is a lost cause.
Vierling his good at 3B, but him in RF gives Tigers one of best defensive OFs in the game with Meadows in CF and Greene in LF. Having a ++ defender like Bregman at 3B makes entire team’s defense better, and more balanced.
There are absolutely concerns about the size of left field in DET. That would effect a guy like Alonso or Santander more than Bregman, however, as Bregman’s always been a line drive guy with power, fitting the approach of guys with success at Comerica Park like JD Martinez, Nick Castellanos, Ian Kinsler, Torii Hunter, Magglio Ordonez and even Miggy, all guys with 20-30 HR (or higher) potential that raked in DET and it’s doubles friendly dimensions.
It’s a signing that is almost a perfect match.
But Tigers have seen too many long deals like V-Mart, Miggy, Zimmerman, Baez et al age poorly and have a much more fiscally responsible (or cheap) ownership versus 10, 15 years ago.
A 4 year pact is perfect to me as Tigers fan. A 5 year pact is understandable to get it done. I don’t really like idea of a 6th year.
Wow…great analysis! I thought about the LF in Detroit. I’m not a Pete fan, but when he hits them, they’re gone.
Bregman hits righties .791 OPS last year better then lefties. .712 OPS. So he’s more like a Lefty hitter just hitting from the right side.
@BCleveland. His OBP tanked badly last year. He drew half his normal number of average walks. I do agree with your assessment of his power though. Lots of soft fly outs will happen off his bat in Detroit.
Yeah I did see that. I could see that being an outlier, but it’s definitely a cause for some concern, especially if a bigger park were to take away even 10-15% of his power numbers.
I feel confident he would adjust.
Well, there you go then. It’s just a matter of confidence. Ignore all the evidence, confidence is all you need.
“Ya gotta have heart…”
I guess it depends on their CF camera. He seemed to really take some steps forward when he knew what pitches were coming.
While it’s not a HR hitters park, Bregman isn’t a power hitter anyway. It’s conducive to gap power and is ok for BA stats. Bregmans doubles and triples would do well here. He doesn’t hit enough HR’s so it’d take away no more than 5. Having said that, I don’t want him for more than 4 years regardless. I wouldn’t care if it was little league dimensions.
Tigers should go all in and sign Bregman Alonso and Pivetta. Just punt on one draft.
Clearly not a Tigers fan here.
They don’t need Pivetta anymore, but could afford Alonso and Bregman. Especially with Alonso willing to accept a shorter deal apparently. That’d never happen though unless Mike Ilitch was still alive.
Not a bad lineup
CF Meadows
LF Greene
3B Bregman
DH Alonso
RF Carpenter
2B Torres
1B Keith
C. Rogers
SS Sweeney/Baez
In one post you say you don’t want Bregman, but replying to a different post you point out what a great lineup the Tigers would have with Bregman.
I don’t think a platoon of Jung and Vierling at 3B would be that much less effective than Bregman but a whole hell of a lot cheaper! The Tigers will under-index at DH, but rotating hot bats with questionable defensive skills (Carpenter, Tork, maybe Torres) might create decent numbers.
I agree with Vierling and Jung and I don’t want Bregman for the length of contract he wants. I’d want him for the immediate future tho. That won’t happen so I’m content with what we have. Bregman for 2025 alone would be awesome tho. I’ve pointed out the length being the reason in past posts. I don’t want him long term.
What a staff they will have. Plus, plenty of depth.
Multiple 6 year deals? I find that highly unlikely. This is a typical ploy used by Boras. When he doesn’t get the overpay he wants he always falls back to high AAV with opt outs. Haven’t we seen this before, like multiple times?
The way things are going, Boras clients are going to need to take these high AAV short-term deals, like Bellinger and Montgomery did last season.
You do know most of his clients already signed multi year hundreds of million dollar contracts right? Why are you stuck in this myth that things have turned out poorly for any of his clients this year?
The Boras clients from last season that signed high AAV, short-term contracts with opt outs seemed to do well. The only one that didn’t was Montgomery and that was because he stunk. Snell got big bucks. Chapman got big bucks.
Why do people think that was a problem?
There are still some of his clients without contracts. That’s not a myth. That’s a fact. None of them were expecting to be without one at this late junction. He did very well for SOME of his clients, but he definitely misread the market for others.
Every single year players go into spring training without having a deal signed and bigger contracts even more so.
Of the Boras 4:
Snell and Chapman did extremely well. Both signed long-term deals that in combination with the huge raises they got on their shorter deals in 2024 are far beyond what they were expected to make going into free agency.
Bellinger opted in and is getting paid more than the $21-22 million he was expected to get in free agency.
Montgomery stunk. He killed any possibility of getting a good deal with his performance which is exactly why teams didn’t want to sign him long term in the first place.
Heck yes! Just figure out some way to get Bregman, Keith, and Jung in the lineup, as well as Torkelson if he hits. Perhaps slide Baez into a utility role, and if he hits, trade him, if not, just release him. You owe it to fans to get him off of the books and sign some stars like Bregman. Not too keen on the Flaherty signing, but at least there is an opt out.
Releasing Baez would not get him off the books. He would still be owed $24M a year through ’27. A trade might save you some of that, heavy on the might.
Marlins still need $22 million to get to $105 million number to avoid MLBPA grievance that would cost them their revenue sharing money.
Eat a half of Baez deal and send a prospect with him to get a decent prospect back.
Trade Beaz to FLordia. Pay half his salary in return get Jonah Bride and you would have your 3b and 1stb, right hand bat with power.
The Flaherty deal was an outstanding deal for Detroit. 1 year for a solid #2, basically. He was pegged to get 5/100 maybe. He’ll opt out and we’ll get a draft pick next year. If he makes 15 starts, we get him for 20 mil. If he doesn’t, we get him for 10. Either way, Detroit is covered as well as a team can be. Especially with what even back end guys are getting.
The Flaherty signing was masterful.
Hilarious….unless your think the going rate for 110 innings is $25 million.
Oh, such a bargain!
When did he last pitch only 110 innings? Not last year thats for sure. His stats last year were at or near the top of most categories in the league.
He’s AVERAGED 110 innings during his seven full seasons in the majors, tossing over 155 innings only twice. Hey, don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled your Tigers are burning $25 million on this “workhorse.” Now, please do the same thing on Bregman, OK?
I’m pretty happy they signed him after he was lights out for them last year. If he’s out with an injury they have depth to cover this year. I hope they only sign Bregman on their terms and don’t give in. Cheers dude
Ditto that
He averaged 110 innings. It doesn’t mean he will only pitch 110 or innings. Who called him a workhorse? You definitely made that up.
The point is, sir, shouldn’t we EXPECT a workhorse for $25m rather than just gamble on one?
But hey, you think it’s wise to pay several hundred thousands of dollars for each inning, that’s your business.
Why do you care? You said you are a Cleveland fan. What have they done this offseason besides trade away two useful vets, one of whom was one of their best hitters, sign a rebound candidate reliever and grab Bieber who is coming off a serious injury. Go assess your own back yard dude. It doesn’t look real promising to me, although I will see Cleveland does a good job developing players so maybe someone blossoms. Maybe.
Bregman should come to Baltimore
There are two Horse Race Tracks near OPACY
There are no Thoroughbred Tracks near Detroit
So,, there is that to consider!
How many Home Depots?
I know of at least one in Balmer…
youtube.com/watch?v=JDpvkwBBu6U
Not so sure I agree with the pundits that the Tigers are still in on Bregman. None of us know what the team can afford to spent, so it is all speculation whether or not they can afford to add Bregman. That $200M payroll included Mike Ilitch kicking in $40M of his own money. If Forbes Business of Baseball is even remotely accurate, the Tigers have not been very profitable the past decade even with low payroll.
Plus, pure speculation that he has multiple 6 year offers. If he does, might just be two and while technically two is multiple, multiple implies at least 3. Also not convinced that Bregman wants to come to Detroit. The longer this drags on the longer I think he is just using Detroit to leverage other interested suitors. As a Tigers fan, would I be happy if the team signed Bregman? Sure would. The Flaherty deal however seems like it puts us out on Bregman. We had 11 starters on the 40 man roster before the Flaherty signing. We had more than enough starting pitching. Adding Flaherty does not seem like it was a real need. Seems more like a decision to bolster an already strong pitching staff to overcome some offensive deficiencies. Trying to win 4-3 and 3-2 games rather than 6-4 and 7-5.
The Tigers definitely needed another Frontline starter. Flaherty slides into the #2 spot behind Skubal.olson and Cobb are your #3-4 guys.
As for the rest of the guys.
Jobe: Has the most upside and no doubt Detroit wants him in the rotation. His control could refined a bit though.
Maeda: was awful in the rotation. Barely decent out of the pen.
Montero: He was either really good or really bad. Control is his issue.
Mize: his stuff was better than ever. The results were mediocre. Chance he gets converted to the pen.
Manning: his stuff is diminished. Struggles to stay healthy.
Madden: Decent enough but nothing that pops out watching him or in the numbers.
Hurter: Stands out as a lefty. Good stuff. Did well as a bulk bullpen arm.
It should be a great battle for the #5. You would not want to go into a playoff relying on Cobb as your #2 but as a 3-4 SP it looks a lot better.
I think he’ll go to either Houston or Toronto. I don’t think we offered more than them. Which is cool with me. I wouldn’t want him for more than 4.
They could ship out some of those surplus arms for a young 3B option if they are going to let Jung sit at AAA. I wonder if they are looking to shift Jung back to 2B and replace Torres with him in 2026.
These two smugs (Flaherty & Bregman) on one team is a dream. Only have to avoid watching Detroit. Trade Altuve to the Tigers and I’ll pi$$ myself!
I don’t care who I just love seeing teams actually try to win. Pittsburgh, Miami, Tampa, etc… are such a waste and they refuse to bring in any talent to plug massive roster holes
The rays? Lmao they literally just signed ha-seong Kim. And everybody knows that they are a low spending team. They don’t have a choice. Yet time and time again they make the playoffs and have an average pitcher on other teams turn into superstars with them. Miami and Pittsburgh sure, but adding Tampa in this discussion is out of line!
Tampa gets it done with minimal budget. They arguably have the best rotation in the AL.
Cool! Go get Bregman Tigers! It would be nice to see Detroit compete again! I’m pulling for them. As a Braves fan, I’m still waiting for that blockbuster from AA to get King and Cease onto the team. Holding my breath………
You and me both buddy!
Hilarious! Tigers’ willingness to commit a massive contract to a player whose best years may be behind him continue. Should be fun having another Baez in the lineup.
We didn’t offer more than Houston or Toronto, I’m guessing. He’s not coming here. And that’s fine with me because I wouldn’t want anything longer than 4. I’m excited we got our #2 with such a short commitment.
The vast majority of FAs are players whose best years may be behind them. However, they don’t cost assets/prospects to acquire, and only cost cash. This still makes them a popular way to add talent, for every team, not just Detroit.
Bergman must be hoping they will give him a dumb deal like they gave jack
“Bergman” is looking for a lot more than a one year deal plus an option and opt out. Haven’t you been keeping up? As a Tiger fan and partial season ticketholder (skipped most of the very leans years), I love the Flaherty deal. Lots of ways to win, and already won by getting Sweeney and Liranzo from the Dodgers last summer.
I said dumb deal
I did not say how many years or opt outs
Detroit cleaned up with Flaherty. Especially with what even back end guys are getting. Basically a year. He’ll opt out after and refuse the QO. Detroit covered themselves as much as a team could. Dude was predicted for 5/100.
You didn’t read the details of his contract did you ??
You didn’t apparently. Players, especially #2 starters, get higher AAV’s when they’re offered less years. 1 year ain’t nothing and even if he pitches like last year, he’ll only get 20. So he’ll opt out obviously. We’ll give a QO and get a draft pick.
You paid $25 million for a guy who averages 110 innings per year. Anybody who says he’s a #2 must be his agent.
C’mon now, on no planet did Detroit “clean up” by getting Flaherty on that deal. More like a mess.
Now if you would, please add Bregman to it. Detroit’s delusional fans deserve a delusional player.
Jack’s deal is bad? In what universe it is bad? I’m so confused on the hate this deal has received.
You bet it’s bad, he is way overpaid
Lmao okay pal. Whatever you say, you’re right and everyone else, even baseball writers and pundits who are all praising this deal are wrong. Got it.
Considering how well Jack pitched last year, and the insane money going to free agents, looks like Detroit got a good deal. He still has to pitch well, but even if he doesn’t, they aren’t handicapped for 5 years like with Jordan Zimmerman…
Ole dog Zimmerman….
Bruce is a mouthpiece for the organization. The Cubs aren’t going to sign Bregman. They are only there in case he takes a short-term offer. But why would he if his Astros have a 5 year deal on the table and he reportedly has longer offers out there. It’s not gonna happen.
Pecota projections are out and they have the Tigers under .500 and 4th in the division.
I predict that the Tigers will win 90 games in 2025.
Very easily done since they won 86 games in 2024, their young core will be better, signing Flaherty for a full season and a few more improvements around the edges
I’m going with 93 this year. Overly optimistic perhaps;)
@SportsFan000
@Motor City Beach Bum
So 90 wins is “very easily done”? And in fact, 93 is in the bag?
Do you guys ever look at your situation realistically? Like, say, through the lens of July 15th last year?
If the Tigers were a sure thing, why aren’t the projection systems buying it? Why aren’t the sports books selling the optimism? Please, don’t tell us, “But they’re ALL wrong!”
It has obviously been so damn long that you’ve sniffed rarified air that you’ve forgotten that sneaking up on people is easy…it’s staying on top that’s hard.
I predicted 86 wins last year and they won 86. Are the prediction models always right because they sure weren’t last year. Were the predictions you saw made since they signed Flaherty? What if they sign Bregman?
The season will determine if they are a playoff team and they basically brought back the same team that won 86 games last year, have a ton of youbg players who can take a step forward and added to the fringes. Why wouldn’t we think they could improve 4-7 games with a better team and predict 90 plus wins.
Your predictions mean nothing. And clearly the Tigers weren’t predicting 86 wins when they dealt everything not nailed to the floor at the deadline. So please, don’t tell me the world has changed because you guys had a miraculous two months. No one but fools bet on miracles. The path of least resistance is down, not only for Detroit, but my Cleveland team which actually WENT to the ALCS. Pecota standings as of Feb 4 have the Tigers and CLE basically tied at 80-82. Those are median results. Both of us require something really special to get to 90 wins. You’re not clear-eyed if you believe something different.
Hey you are entitled to your opinion which is also no better than the experts or mine. That’s why they play the games. No one thought or predicted Detroit, Cleveland or KC would get as far as they did last year. KC improved and so did Detroit this offseason . Cleveland always seems to have a homegrown replacement. Should be a good battle between the three with Minnesota still a possibility. Should be a good battle.
10-3 vs ChiWS. Will they (Chisox) be so smelly this year?
Harris has not improved the team (yet). He’s come back with the same team.(more or less).
He is counting on or is continuing player development.
Year 3?
Please review the team stats. <.250 ; <20 hrs?
Do you see that much in the stats? Granted, they are young.
Granted, I am old.
Chris Illich is FOS.
Give the damsel team to his sister, already.
The man moves like molasses. There are lots of this they could have done this past 10+ years.
There are lots of things they could have done this year. But they've got to spend some investment.
A “possibility”? Good grief, Minnesota is the FAVORITE. And for good reason.
They also project the Twins to win the division even though they haven’t done a damned thing to improve their team. They had minor losses (Carlos Santana, Kepler, Farmer, Kiriloff, Desclafani, Margot, Thielbar)., and literally added no one. If Buxton, Lewis, and Correa can stay healthy, and no one else key gets injured (looking at you, Joe Ryan), then maybe they’ll be good. If, if, if, if, and if. I’ll take the under on their projected win total.
It’s nuts not to think the Twins are the most talented team in the division and should be the favorites. You’d be delusional to think otherwise.
“Activity” over the winter doesn’t mean a damn thing, and Tigers fans should know that after all their excitement in the offseason where they signed Baez and Eduardo Rodriguez.
Heck they flopped around last winter and signed Canha, Maeda, Shelby Miller, and Jack Flaherty and basically waved the white flag in July.
Please don’t tell me that Minnesota had a “failed” offseason when they are the favorites. (And I’m a Cleveland fan who is not afraid of the Twins, but I respect their club a heckuva lot more than Detroit.)
Avory…you don’t seem to respect much. The Twins caved and finished fourth. They have done nothing this offseason. Cleveland went backwards and traded a bunch of vets off and brought in Bieber who is coming back from injury. Not a great offseason by any measure.
KC and Detroit filled some holes this offseason to supplement their 86 win teams from last year.
Pecota sure didn’t predict the AL Central standings very well last year so not surecwhy hou ghink thei oredictions are gospel.
Go post on Cleveland Guardians articles if you hate the Tigers that much dude.
I don’t hate the Tigers, I’m just not delusional. I remember how excited Detroit fans were when they had a good two months and signed Baez, et al. Ah, the more things change, the more they stay the same…
Go away.
Those always have 98.9% of teams hovering around 500 each year, lol. I’m curious to what they predicted for LA tho. Knowing them, I bet it’s under 100 and it shouldn’t be. Pecota is always ultra conservative
THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN! THE TIGERS ARE SIGNING EVERYBODY!
Breaking news: Tigers sign Bob Everybody
I thought (from the Opener) that Detroit-Bregman talks were at a “standstill”? Someone is going to spend a lot of money on a 31-year old who’s walk rate tanked last year. Might work out, but the back end of the contract is going to be unhappy.
Skip Bregman, and spend on Vlad next year.
Vlad will be in a Dodgers uniform in 2026.
Harris is putting Detroit back on M.L.B. map again. Another spectacular deal for the Tigers this off season. Great stuff, great pitcher and for the great length. . .FANTASTIC GO TIGERS !
Good. Hope he signs with the Tigers. So tired of reading how he is a fit for the lefty heavy Red Sox when the guy can’t hit lefties anymore. His splits for the past 3 years are horrid, especially for a right handed bat.
I’m beginning to think the Tigers are going to sign Bregman. Short term, big bucks up front with an opt out.
I don’t know. Would a 3 yr., $30 million/yr. and an opt out in year 1 be enough? No “no trade” clause.
He won’t take that deal… he could flounder in Detroit and it would further damage his value. If he takes a short term it will be with a more serious contender.
There’s only 5-6 teams then. The Tigers certainly are a contender for the post season.
I can see Washington being a dark horse for Bregman
Read article last night about the present makeup of the
Detroit Tigers.
Most of the players on the Tigers 2024 playoffs team that came within 1 game of the ALCS
were drafted, signed, acquired by former
GM Al Avila (Fired).
It agreed that it was time for the Tigers to move on from Al Avila.
However, I give credit where credit is due.
And, oftentimes, the affects of MLB drafts, trades and acquisitions
take years to see if those deals and drafts were a success or failure for an MLB ballclub.
The Detroit Tigers of 2024-2025 prove those points…
detroitnews.com/story/sports/columnists/tony-paul/…
Flaherty signing was really good! Allows the Tigers to slide Jobe into the #5 slot and let him come along at his own pace. Keep his innings in check, etc.
If the Tigers can bring in Bregman it will be a really solid offseason.
I’m not saying he’s Soto or anything. Just a really solid all around ball player who would fit in with this team very well. It really is a perfect fit.
They cannot keep trotting out the Ibanez/McKinstry/Vierling combo at 3rd. Don’t settle for that. Set your sights higher.
Mize will probably start the season as the 5 with Jobe getting more AAA seasoning. He’ll be up by May when Cobb inevitably gets hurt though.
Cobb could get hurt getting on the bus. Jobe or Mize better not stray far.
Bregman is being too greedy. He just needs to settle for the contract the Astros have offered him. I bet you they’re valuing him based in metrics and what he’s meant for their organization, and ignoring how age will probably effect him.
I said it before, I’ll say it again. Sign him for 200 years, $200m guaranteed, flat rate of $1m per year.
