Causes, Symptoms and Home Treatment of Diseases

Diseases are classified as follows:


1. Communicable

2. Non

- Communicable

COMMUNICABLE Those that are transmitted through direct or indirect contact through various media such as air, water, body fluids and discharges. Communicable diseases transfer from one person to another unless checked and controlled early.

Examples: 1. Measles 2. Flu 3. AIDS 4. Cold 5. Typhoid Fever, etc.

NON-COMMUNICABLE Diseases that are usually the result of heredity, physiological abnormality, malfunctioning body organs, malnutrition, faulty habits and accidents.

Examples: 1. Asthma 2. Heart Disease 3. Cancer 4. Anemia 5. Epilepsy 6. Fractures 7. Scoliosis, etc.

Factors and Preventive Measures

Acetaminophen/Paracetamol
It is a widely used over-thecounter analgesic (pain reliever) and antipyretic (fever reducer). It is commonly used for the relief of headaches and other minor aches and pains and is a major ingredient in numerous cold and flu remedies.

Aspirin should not be given for fever to children and teenagers because it could make them more susceptible to Reyes syndrome which is a serious condition that causes permanent damage to the brain and other organs or death.

Reyes Syndrome
Reye syndrome is sudden (acute) brain damage and liver function problems of unknown cause. The syndrome has occurred in children who have been given aspirin when they have chicken pox or the flu. Reye syndrome has become very uncommon since aspirin is no longer recommended for routine use in children.

Causes:
Reye syndrome is most often seen in children ages 4 - 12. Most cases that occur with chickenpox are in children ages 5 - 9. Cases that occur with the flu are usually in children ages 10 - 14.

Symptoms:
Children with Reye syndrome get sick very suddenly. The syndrome often begins with vomiting, which lasts for many hours. The vomiting is quickly followed by irritable and aggressive behavior. As the condition gets worse, the child may be unable to stay
