Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done.Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Psalm 105:1-3

Dear Parents,

We are entering week 2 of school. Students are slowly getting used to the school routines, but please continue to encourage your child to sleep early since Ive heard a few kids tell me how sleepy they were. Language Arts: We're off to a good start with establishing routines and building stamina for the Daily Five. This week we will be working hard on building stamina in reading to self and learning three different ways to effectively read with a partner ("Read to Someone.") We'll also be learning and practicing strategies to help us read words accurately and increase vocabulary. In writing, we are working on collecting ideas and topics for our writing. Bible: We will explore the book of

Genesis this week, and students will look at the Old Testament characters and learn why they were special in Gods eyes. This weeks memory verse is Psalms 105:1-6. Since its a longer passage, students will recite verses 1-3 this Friday (9/6) and memorize verses 4-6 by next Friday (9/13). We will also be working on memorizing the books of the Bible in the OT. This is not due this week. Math: This week, we will be working on various addition and subtraction facts. Students will also learn to solve addition and subtraction number stories. Spelling: We will begin doing chunk spelling starting this week. Each week, we will focus on a rime (word family) and students will

find words which include the rime. Students will take home a spelling tic-tac-toe sheet and they are to complete three of the assignments to complete the tic-tac-toe. Please initial each assignment that they complete and have them bring it to school on Friday. They will have a spelling test on Friday.
