Overview & Objectives

Following the Kodaly Method of teaching rhythm, this lesson will
provide students with an opportunity to understand the concept of
quarter notes/rests.
Students will:
Play games to reinforce the connection between the steady beat
and rhythm
Learn to read quarter notes and quarter rests in various patterns
Create their own rhythm patterns using these notes

Preparation
Charge iPad and download apps
Make copies of PDF hand-outs and count out rhythm
manipulatives for each student
Have examples of student work for final project to show students
Make sure all classroom technology is set up and running

Students will sing an upbeat
song of choice while

various quarter note/rest
patterns increasing in
difficulty

dictate the patterns using
the steady beat charts and
note manipulatives
