COORDINATE SYSTEMS: In physics, it often helps to draw a non-standard coordinate system


to solve a particular problem.
1) Draw two points in the space below, label them A and B. Then, draw a set of x-y axes such
that the displacement vector from A to B is in the positive x-direction.

There are many ways to do this problem.


As long as you unambiguously label your axes
(the arrow denotes which direction is positive)
and the displacement vector from A to B is
pointing in the right direction, you did it right.

Note: the y-axis can also point in the opposite direction (down)

2) Draw two points in the space below, label them A and B. Then, draw a set of x-y axes such
that the displacement vector from A to B is in the negative y-direction.

Note: the x-axis can also point in the opposite direction (up)
