Congratulations Draper Dragons! We earned enough money for 30 computers that will be part of our mobile computer lab! This will allow students and teachers to have more access to technology next year. June 1 was a perfect day for a Fun Run. Fifth-grader Mac Herbert was the first to cross the finish line. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped along the course and all of you who helped us achieve our goal!

Thanks to the numerous other volunteers and sponsors who helped with the run and assisted the school in meeting its $46,000 goal. New Middle School Update

The following information concerning a new middle school being built in Draper was presented May 24 during an information meeting held at Draper Elementary: The new middle school site is 13200 South 1300 East. The new middle school (Crescent View Middle) will have the same boundaries as the new Corner Canyon High School. The new middle school is scheduled to open for the 2013-14 school year in conjunction with the new boundaries and new grade configurations. VCBO Architects have been selected to design the new school. Draper City is currently conducting a traffic study of the area because of the increased traffic that will occur once the school opens. Teachers, School Community Council members and PTA leadership of the impacted schools are making recommendations during the design process. The district will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new school sometime later this summer. The new school is being paid for with $20 million from the bond (originally intended to renovate Crescent View Middle) and existing capital outlay funds. There wikl be no tax increase to taxpayers. The school will open with 1,500 students making it the largest middle school in the district. For updates on the new middle school visit the Canyons website at canyonsdistrict.org.

Open Enrollment Window for 2013-14 Begins Aug. 1

To adequately prepare for the districtwide grade reconfiguration in Fall 2012, Canyons School District has altered the timeframe to submit requests to attend a school other than your designated boundary school. The school open-enrollment application window for the 2012-14 school year will be Aug. 1 through Nov. 1. Applications will not be taken outside this window. If your child currently attends Draper Elementary on permit, you will need to submit another application during this open-enrollment window. The new grade configuration moves ninth-graders into the high schools and creates middle schools of sixth through eighth grades, and elementary schools of kindergarten through fifth grades. Open enrollment applications can be found on the districts website at http://www.canyonsdistrict.org/image s/ stories/2013-14 School Open Enrollment Application.pdf Applications should be submitted to Draper Elementary. PTA Presidents Message

A big and much-deserve d"KSL HIGH FIVE" to Brenda Andrewsen and Erin Miller and to all those who helped make the Fun Run fundraiser at Draper Elementary the most successful yet. What a great way to end an outstanding year! Parent, please consider being a part of the PTA at Draper Elementary next fall. It is a great way to get involved with the school and community and make new friendships. There seems to be a lot of misconceptions about PTA. If you do not understand it. Please research it. Take the time to find out what PTA stands for and learn about all the opportunities it provides for the children in our school community. It is an organization worthy of your time and resources. We would love to see more parents get involved. Have a fun a relaxing summer. Jolynn Skousen, PTA President 2011-12
