    SKELETAL SYSTEM

    * FRAMEWORK system of the body


    * Composed of different bines of the
    body and cartilages forming the
    framework of the body.
    Bones
    * Made up of calcium
    * Hardest part of complesing the
    skeleton of the vertebrae
    * Resist tension
    * Dense connective tissue that serves
    as the storage of calcium of the body.
    Main Functions of Skeletal system
    1. Support
    - serves as the framework of the entire
    body system.
    2. Protection
    - protects the delicate organs of the
    body.
    3. Movement
    - muscles are able to move because of
    their attachment with bones by means
    of tendons.
    4. Mineral storage
    - bones are considered as the
    storchonse of calcium
    5. Blood Cell Formation
    - because of the presence of bone
    marrow.
    Four Classification of Bones
    1. Long Bones
    - Typically longer than wide
    Ex. Femur, humerus, unlna, radius,
    tibia, fibula
    2. Short Bones
    - Generally cube in shapes
    Ex. Carpals, Tarcals

    3. Flat bones
    - thin flattened

    - usually curved
    Ex. Scapul, Sternum, Cranium, Ribs
