    SEPTEMBER 1, 2015 (CHATHAM): Southside Virginia State Senator
    William M. Bill Stanley (R-20), the Majority Whip of the state Senate
    Republican Caucus, made the following statement:
    Today, I am honored to announce that United States Senator and
    Presidential candidate Ted Cruz (TX) has asked me to serve as his Virginia
    state Chairman of the Cruz for President Campaign.
    I am excited to lead the Virginia effort to elect the freedom-loving
    constitutional conservative Ted Cruz as our next President. I am asking all
    Virginians, from all walks of life, and from all corners of the Commonwealth,
    to join our grassroots effort to be a part of reigniting the promise of
    America for us, our children, and for generations to come. Please join us in
    this effort; our Commonwealth and our nation are depending on us. The
    story of Ted Cruzs life and that of his family is the epitome of the American
    Dream. His vision for the future of our country is simple: that through his
    principled leadership, together we will build a dynamic nation where
    anybody with nothing, can achieve anything.
    In the past six years, America has suffered. Instead of hope and change,
    we have endured economic despair, loss of individual freedoms and the
    stifling of the American Dream through increased government dependency.
    All because of the liberal policies of Barack Obama.
    It is now time for a new direction for our country. It is time for Obamas
    meaningless call for hope, to be transformed into the reality of prosperity,
    by and through the restoration of individual liberty and economic growth and
    opportunity free from government interference. It is time for a leader like
    Ted Cruz.
    The road to the White House goes through Virginia. We will bring all
    Republicans in Virginia together: from the western coalfields to the Blue
    Ridge Mountains, from Southside and Central Virginia to Hampton Roads and
    Northern Virginia. With your help, together we will not only win the primary
    on Super Tuesday but turn Virginia red on November 8, 2014.

    "I am encouraged and honored to have Bill head up our Leadership Team in
    Virginia," said Senator Cruz. "The Commonwealth will play a critical role in
    the nominating process as Virginia Republicans make their decision on Super
    Tuesday. We are going to compete hard for their votes and with Bill's help,
    along with our outstanding and experienced Leadership Team, I believe we
    are going to do very well. We are going to reunify the old Reagan coalition,
    and bring people together in the common cause of restoring our
    constitutional principles and conservative values."
    Senator Stanley has been the Senator for the Virginia 20th senate
    district since 2011, and was elected unanimously by his colleagues
    in the Virginia Senate Republican Caucus as their Majority Whip the
    same year, and has served in that capacity ever since. Since his
    election, Senator Stanley has led the fight for religious freedom in
    his successful pro bono representation of the Pittsylvania County
    Board of Supervisors in their fight against the ACLU to keep
    legislative prayer at their Board meetings, authored legislation to
    promote workforce training, economic development and breaking
    the cycle of poverty in Southside and Southwest Virginia, and
    sponsored the historic legislation in 2012 that brought school
    choice to Virginia to give parents the fundamental right to make the
    educational choices for their children, regardless of their zip code or
