ADVENT - Luke 2:4-14 4Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the
city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David.
5
He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child.
6
While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. 7And she gave birth to her
firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was
no place for them in the inn.
The Shepherds and the Angels
8
In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9
Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them,
and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid; for seeI am bringing
you good news of great joy for all the people: 11to you is born this day in the city of David a
Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. 12This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped
in bands of cloth and lying in a manger. 13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude
of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,
14Glory

to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!

Dear Church,
I have a friend who I
often go hiking with.
Weve been friends since
we were both in boy
scouts together. Many
years have passed since
then. He is now a
successful
business
owner. We both have
busy schedules that are
sometimes
hard
to
coordinate.
A few months ago,
we discovered that we
could go on hikes on
Sunday late afternoons.
That is, until we switched
from Daylight Saving
Time. Now, it just gets
dark too early.

The Hope, Peace, Joy and Love

of Advent pierces through the
darkness.
My friend and I did find
time to go hiking this past
weekend on Saturday. Right
now is a special time in the
lower elevations of southern
California. Unlike most other
regions, we have plants here
that go dormant in the summer, and come back to life in
the winter just the opposite
of what is normally the case.
Plants that have looked dead
and lifeless through the hot,
dry months of summer are
now starting to turn green,
and with a few more rainstorms, the hills will be verdant
once again.

Not only does it get

dark early, but its also
dark when I wake up in
the morning. This really
is the season of darkness.

Even in this season of

darkness, light and life shine
forth.

When the early

church settled on the
date for Christmas, they
really had no idea the
actual date of Christs
birth. But they knew that
Christ was the light that
had come into the world
of darkness. What better
time of year to celebrate
Christs birth than when
the days are shortest,
and the nights are
longest?

Pastor Danny

We continue to
experience
much
darkness in our world
today. Racism. Violence.
Hatred.
Intolerance.
Environmental
destruction.
But the light that
came into the world at
Christs birth still shines
in our world today. The

See you at church!

CWF has chosen their project for the narthex Christmas Card Tree. This year donations will be a Love Gift to BKCC to
be used where needed most. By placing your one greeting card on the tree for all members of BKCC, the money you save
on individual cards and postage can benefit the church. The tree will be up for Advent Sunday. It would be wonderful to
fill the tree with our personal greeting cards.

In December, CWF traditionally organizes the collection of toys and clothing for our Disciple mission, Eastmont Community Center, in East LA. The Center has a Christmas party each year for the children in their community. This year the party
will be on December 17. The last Sunday to bring items will be Dec 13 so they can be delivered in time for the party.
Toys, clothing and gift items for all ages from preschool to 16 are needed. A box will be under the narthex tree for your
donations.

80 cards Thanksgiving Day cards were delivered to the VA hospital. The next date to bring Christmas cards is
