HOSPITALS
Hospitals provide a broad range of in-patient
and out-patient health care services to match the needs of the community. In-Patient Services
In-patient services include medical, surgical, paediatric, obstetric and
rehabilitation services. Many hospitals also provide mental health services and services for older people Out-Patient Services
Most hospitals provide out-patient services including emergency
services, day procedures, diagnostic and assessment services, and therapy services. Hospitals also support various community based programs to prevent or reduce the need for hospitalisation. WAITING LISTS
Patients requiring elective surgery (non-life threatening) at a public hospital are often placed on waiting lists for some operations.

NURSING POSTS AND NURSING CENTRES
Nursing posts and nursing centres can offer basic health care and treatment. Qualified nurses staff these centres and doctors visit on a routine basis. The Silver Chain Nursing Association runs a number of these centres. Information about opening times and emergency care is available from the centres. PATIENT ASSISTED TRAVEL SCHEME (PATS)
The Patient Assisted Travel Scheme (PATS) provides a subsidy towards the cost of travel and where applicable accommodation for eligible permanent country residents of a WA Country Health Service (WACHS) Region, and their approved escorts, who are required to travel a minimum distance to access the nearest eligible medical specialist services (including a Telehealth enabled service).
